Jake Paul Set To Fight Mike Tyson, But Is Criticised By The Fans

Mike Tyson is going back to the fight. You did really hear correctly. On July 20, Tyson and Jake Paul will square off in a boxing bout at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which is home to the Dallas Cowboys.

In order to someday contend for a world championship, YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) has stated that he wants to concentrate on taking on professional boxers. Rather than that, he will take on the long-retired Tyson (56-6, 44 KOs), one of the greatest boxers in history and a former heavyweight champion.

He lost by TKO to Kevin McBride in June 2005, over 19 years ago in his last professional bout. At the time of the bout, Tyson will be 58 years old.

Paul and Tyson have both previously featured on boxing cards together. Paul competed in the co-main event of the pay-per-view, which saw Tyson facing Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition bout in 2020. It was Tyson’s return to boxing since 2006.

In his second professional boxing battle, Paul defeated former NBA player Nate Robinson via knockout in the second round.

Because of their 30-year age gap, members of the combat sports world are criticizing the Netflix battle between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.

“You should be ashamed of yourself,” former UFC champion and current analyst Michael Bisping wrote in a post on X. “And the biggest joke is you don’t even slightly realize why.”

“You’re fighting someone who was born in 1966. Have some shame.” MMA fighter and one-time boxer Dillon Danis said on social media after the fight was announced.

“What does Michael Bisping have to do with this?” Woodley asked. “How ashamed was Michael Bisping when he fought old, dated Dan Henderson when he was ranked No. 15 in the world but fought him for the world championship?

“People are given the luxury of talking about things…. we have too much to talk about someone else. This fight has nothing to do with anyone else.”

Even though Tyson is older than other boxers, his star power hasn’t diminished in the slightest. Even though Tyson’s last competitive match was in 2005, he is still regarded as one of the world’s most famous people, not just in the sports world.

Paul is without a doubt one of the most well-known figures on social media. Boxing purists be damned, when you combine both, you have one enormous event that will undoubtedly attract attention from all over the world.

Given that this isn’t a pay-per-view event, Netflix has more than 260 million members worldwide, making it possible that this will be the most viewed fight of the century. Really? With 4.6 million buys, Mayweather’s fight against Manny Pacquiao in 2015 broke the PPV record.
