“Islam Has to Fight at Least Once Before Challenging for the Title”- Charles Oliveira Eyes a Champion vs Champion Fight Against Alexander Volkanovski for His Return

The UFC’s lightweight division is brimming with talent at the moment. The belt is vacant at the moment, but Charles Oliveira is widely recognized as the best in the world at 155-pounds despite being officially stripped off the belt. There are a number of interesting fights that could be made for Oliveira, but the former champion has only one fight on his mind.

In a recent interview, he said, “Yeah it is all about time to be honest. Everybody knows that I would like to fight Conor because of the money, and everybody knows that I think Islam has to fight at least once before challenging for the title and now there is Vokanovksi but the thing is, everyone wants to fight me.”

Oliveira was in attendance as the featherweight champion Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski put on another impressive performance as he put a definitive end to his trilogy, with Max finishing the series with all three wins. In the post-fight press conference, he stated that since there were no contenders available to him at 145-pounds he would like to go up in weight and challenge for the 155-pound belt and become the fifth simultaneous two-division champion in the UFC.

Charles Oliveira to welcome Alexander Volkanovski to lightweight?

After Dariush pulled out of his fight against Makhachev, Dana White insisted that he would like to reschedule a fight between the two men. However, after Oliveira’s win against Justin Gaethje, White changed his mind and was open to the idea of Oliveira vs Makhachev for the vacant title in Abu Dhabi.

Alexander Volkanovski

Now that Alexander Volkanovski also wants a piece of the action, there is a strong chance that Dana White might book a fight between ‘The Great’ and ‘Do Bronx’ for the vacant lightweight title and have the fight between Makhachev and Dariush rescheduled.
