‘I Actually Wanted to Fight the Next Guy Ahead of Me’- Sean Brady Goes Off on ‘F*ckin’ Internet Guys’ For Trolling Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson Call-Out

UFC welterweight Sean Brady went off on ‘The MMA Hour’ when talking about a fight that was in line for him before he was booked to face Belal Muhammad. Brady was angling for a fight against former title challenger Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson and talked about the fan backlash he faced for making the aforementioned call-out.

Per Sean Brady, fans have been bashing him for calling out Brady since it’s a stylistically favorable match-up on paper. Moreover, they also pointed out that ‘Wonderboy’ is pushing 40 and the undefeated welterweight in Brady would be favored to pull off the win.

Sean Brady pushed back against these comments and revealed his true intentions behind the call-out. He simply saw ‘Wonderboy’ as the next man in line per the UFC rankings and wanted to face the veteran for a chance to take his place in the rankings.

“I was trying to fight Wonderboy. And I wasn’t trying to fight Wonderboy because it’s a good stylistic matchup for me. I actually wanted to fight the next guy ahead of me,” Brady said. “And back to these f*ckin’ internet guys, ‘Oh, you just want to fight the guy who’s 39 years old, blah, blah, blah.’ If you can’t get taken down and get back up, then that’s a problem. Go do something else.”

Sean Brady doubled down on this point and it’s evident that he feels strongly about his call-out.

“But I love Wonderboy. But I’m just saying… and if you want to do like the Nate and the Nick Diaz fights and all that shit, that’s fine, but don’t be in the rankings,” Brady asserted. “The point of being in the rankings is to work your way up, and become a champion, or challenge for a belt. And that’s what I’m trying to do.” [h/t bjpenn.com]

Sean Brady is ranked number 9 and a win over Stephen Thompson would allow him to take Thompson’s place as he sits at number 7. The welterweight division has proven to be a competitive zone of talent and moving up towards contention is always easier said than done.
