The first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs will start four days later on Saturday, April 15.

How will the 2023 NBA Playoffs work?

When the regular season in 2022–23 ends and before the opening round of the NBA Playoffs in 2023, the NBA Play-In Tournament will take place. The top six clubs in each conference’s standings will get automatic playoff participation. The Play-In Tournament will be open to teams ranked 7–10.

The No. 7 and No. 8 teams in each conference will compete, with the victor securing the No. 7 seed in the postseason. The losing team will still have a chance to make the playoffs.

The No. 9 and No. 10 teams in each conference will compete, with the victor moving on to face the loser of the No. 7 vs. No. 8 match. The loser of the No. 9 vs. No. 10 match will not be eligible for the playoffs.

Next, the loser of the No. 7 vs. No. 8 match and the victor of the No. 9 vs. No. 10 match will square off. The winner of that contest will receive the eighth playoff seed. The loser will no longer be eligible for the playoffs.

The 2023 NBA Playoffs will follow the customary structure after the Play-In Tournament, with complete best-of-seven series up until the NBA Finals.
