‘Forget About Conor McGregor Now’- Charles Oliveira Zeroes in on Facing Islam Makhachev in Brazil

Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira spoke to AG Fight and shared his views on his future in the company. Oliveira is considered by many to be the uncrowned champion and he’s hell-bent on picking up his now-vacant title in a bout before the end of the year.

Oliveira has expressed an interest in facing Conor McGregor in an open attempt to secure the biggest money fight and talked about how everyone is content to allow McGregor to skip the line even though he’s not won a fight at lightweight since 2016.

Moreover, fans expect that Oliveira will face Islam Makhachev within the next few months and that is a fight ‘Do Bronx’ is also willing to take. However, he’s confident that once he defeats Makhachev, he will successfully lure his mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov out of retirement and beat him as well, making him the greatest lightweight fighter of all time.

“If they really want it, they need to chase the champion. I chased the champion, right? Then I became the champion. I want to fight in December. Do you really want this? So let’s do something cool. Now I’m talking to you. Let’s fight in January in Brazil? Isn’t that what you really want? So sell it more. But look at this, Khabib, you’ve already tried three premonitions about me and missed all three.”

“Look, I won’t say I’m going to submit or knock him out, but I’ll beat him. Listen to this: I will beat Islam Makhachev. The division’s problem is called Charles Oliveira. That’s the division’s problem. It doesn’t matter what they say. If they really want it, I want it, too.”

Oliveira clearly stated that he’s willing to forgo a money fight against McGregor in favor of a legacy fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, it remains to be seen if Nurmagomedov will even be enticed to make a comeback.

“Look, forget about Conor McGregor now. Forget it. In Brazil, Charles Oliveira against Islam Makhachev. Is this the fight you want? So we will have it. Charles Oliveira against Islam Makhachev in Brazil.” [h/t mmajunkie.com]

As of now, Khabib Nurmagomedov has shown no interest to make a return to MMA but fans will be curious to see his response if his protégé ends up losing to Oliveira.
