Five Things You Did Not Know About Malik Monk

Malik Monk has had quite a career. He started his NBA career with Michael Jordan’s Charlotte Hornets and then joined Los Angeles Lakers, where he played alongside LeBron James. He competed for the Kentucky Wildcats in collegiate basketball for one season, receiving second-team All-American recognition in 2017. Monk spent his first year of high school at East Poinsett County High School in Lepanto, Arkansas. He helped them to a 25-8 overall record and a spot in the Class 2A state championship game as a freshman, averaging 22.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.

Malik Monk declared at the end of his first season that he will forgo his remaining three years of college eligibility and enter the 2017 NBA draft, where he was expected to be selected in the first round.

Iggy and Malik’s teammates Anthony Davis, 28, and his wife Marlen P. joined them for dinner at Giorgio Baldi, and as a matter of fact, the rumors that they are dating are probably true.

Brother is an NFL player

Marcus Monk, a former basketball and football player, is Malik’s older brother. The Chicago Bears selected Marcus, 35, in the 2008 NFL Draft. Three months later, he was released, and he eventually signed with the New York Giants.

Marcus was signed by the Carolina Panthers after being released and later dismissed from the Giants’ practice squad. He later decided to retire from the NFL in 2009. Between 2010 and 2012, Marcus also competed in professional basketball in Germany.

Good Samaritan

Malik Monk has a strong commitment to charitable giving. He began his yearly “Malik Monk Turkey Drive” in 2017, when dinners are given to individuals in need for Thanksgiving.

Picked Kentucky over Arkansas

When it came time to select a university, Malik Monk faced some pressure to remain at home and play for the University of Arkansas, a school where his elder brother had excelled. Coach Mike Anderson of Arkansas tried his best to retain the highly sought-after recruit in the state by attending nearly all of Monk’s games in Bentonville.
