Around 10 a.m. on February 8, police were called to the Portland area of Lents in response to reports of shooting. They discovered that Haynes, 70, was inside the house and would not come out.

After a two-hour standoff, Haynes was brought into custody without incident with the assistance of SWAT units.

Inside the house, police discovered his 85-year-old wife, Janette Becraft, dead.

The first report following the gunshot on February 8 said, “It is unknown if there is a victim or victims.” A possible suspect in the house was approached by police, but he hasn’t cooperated.

Between Southeast 97th Avenue and Southeast 102nd Avenue, a security cordon has been established around Southeast Reedway Street and Southeast Foster Road.

“Officers determined the suspect was inside the home and they requested assistance from the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) in order to safely take the suspect into custody,” the Portland Police Bureau stated in a follow-up statement. After entering the house, the officers discovered a deceased adult female inside. When homicide investigators arrived on the site, they began their investigation.”

The pair was well-known in the neighborhood, according to a longtime acquaintance and neighbor, with Haynes frequently entertaining local wrestling fans with combat stories from his heyday.

“It’s just a huge tragedy,” Brelynn Matthieu told KOIN. “I was pretty decently close to both of them and loved them very much. It’s a really sad day, all around.”

“You are now flying with the angels,” the victim’s daughter, Kim Becraft, wrote on Facebook. “They are lucky to have such a beautiful soul. Love you Mom.”

The World Wrestling Federation run that Haynes had from 1986 to 1988 is what made him most famous. It landed him a berth on the storied 1987 Wrestlemania III event in Detroit.

When it comes to legal cases, Haynes is not a new name. He was the plaintiff in a case against WWE in 2016. The complaint claims that the organization withheld information regarding several brain damage the wrestlers had incurred from medical studies.

According to reports, the medical examiner has verified that a gunshot wound is the cause of death and that the death should be investigated as a homicide.
