Ex NBA Amar’e Stoudemire Arrested On Misdemeanor Battery Charge For Punching His Own Daughter

Amar’e Stoudemire, a former NBA legend, was detained on Sunday in Florida only hours after earning his master’s degree from the University of Miami.

According to Miami-Dade County web records, Stoudemire, a star player for the Phoenix Suns and the New York Knicks, was charged with misdemeanour violence following an incident involving his daughter. The arrest of Stoudemire was originally reported by South Florida sportswriter Andy Slater.

Stoudemire, 40, is facing a misdemeanour battery charge. He was booked Sunday at 4:09 a.m., according to Miami-Dade Corrections records, and the bond was set at $1,500.

“I observed blood stains on the victim’s sweater and sweatpants,” the arrest report says, according to the Miami Herald. “The mother of the victim showed me the photo she received from her daughter, which shows the victim crying and blood running down her face.”

Stoudemire and his ex-wife Alexis have four kids together, two of whom are teenagers. It was unclear which daughter was allegedly involved in the incident as of Sunday morning.

According to the Herald, Alexis allegedly went to Stoudemire’s house after their daughter “pleading for help” and Stoudemire informed his ex that their kid was “disrespectful.” According to the article, after beating his daughter, Stoudemire believed she was “showing attitude” to her grandma and “kept slapping her.”

Stoudemire told cops his daughter “received a whooping from him for being disrespectful and a liar,” per the Herald.

The 40-year-old resident of Lake Wales graduated with his MBA just hours before the alleged occurrence, so it was recently.

Stoudemire was a member of the All-NBA First Team five times and was a six-time All-Star. At the Knicks made the headline-grabbing move to bring him to New York before the start of the 2010–11 season, he spent eight seasons with the Suns and Steve Nash.
