Erik Ainge Takes A Dig At Georgia Bulldogs QB Stetson Bennett, Calls Him A ‘Punk’

After defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Peach Bowl thanks to a brilliant comeback effort in the fourth quarter, the Georgia Bulldogs are headed for the national championship for the second year in a row. Stetson Bennett, the quarterback, put on a spectacular performance in the game’s fourth quarter, throwing for 190 yards and two touchdowns, including the ultimate game-winning score with 58 seconds left.

Fans of Georgia will undoubtedly never forget Stenson Bennett’s performance, which was among his most remarkable to date. With that performance, he also came within 70 yards of passing for the most yards in a season in Georgia programme history.

Bennett’s amazing performance against the Buckeyes demonstrated not only that he belongs in the elite company of college football quarterbacks, but also that he is more than capable of assisting his team in battling back into a game in the final minutes. People show a lot of appreciation for this kind of performance, albeit not everyone does, it seems.

Former Tennessee Volunteer, Erik Ainge provided his thoughts on Bennett during “The Erik Ainge Show,” and he did not speak very fondly of the Georgia quarterback.

“You know who I can’t stand though? Stetson Bennett. It was cute when he first got to play and played pretty well. And now the whole like I’m a walk-on, I’m a JUCO transfer, he’s like 28-3 as a starter at Georgia or something like that. I’m cheering hard against him. I want Georgia not to just lose the game I don’t want them to lose with Stetson Bennett throwing 4 touchdowns. I want Stetson Bennett to throw 4 picks and cost his team a championship. He’s such a punk.

I’m not clear what Stenson Bennett and Kirby Smart’s crew did to enrage Erik Ainge. Perhaps it’s just that Georgia and Tennessee are fierce SEC East rivals.

It’s difficult to say, but given that Erik Ainge retired from SEC football in 2008, it’s unlikely that the two have interacted frequently or at all.

Stetson Bennett: a punk or not? He does have a slightly chippy attitude, but that hardly qualifies as being a punk. That’s exactly the attitude and mindset coaches love to commend, isn’t it?

Ainge might be enraged because Bennett bombarded spectators with a phone signal during Georgia’s convincing victory over Tennessee after his number was revealed.
