‘Do What’s Gotten You Here’- Jorge Masvidal Rubbishes Gilbert Burns’ Challenge to Fight Without Takedowns in a Potential Fight

UFC megastar Jorge Masvidal grabbed attention with recent comments he made on ‘The Fighter vs The Writer’. ‘Gamebred’ responded to a call-out issued by former title challenger Gilbert Burns that saw the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace promise to sign a contract that wouldn’t allow him to attempt takedowns in the fight.

He essentially agreed to engage in a stand-up battle with Jorge Masvidal in what will certainly be a main event bout.

However, Jorge Masvidal shut down the idea of fighting Gilbert Burns in a fight that disbarred Gilbert Burns from taking him down. In fact, he encouraged Burns to ‘do what’s gotten you here’ and clearly wants to test himself against a grappling wizard like Gilbert Burns.

“I don’t want Gilbert to sign no contract that says no takedowns. Do your game, my brother. Do what’s gotten you here.

“I know he’s a world champion in [Brazilian jiu-jitsu]. I’m trying to work on my grappling, always trying to get better. So do everything that God has allowed you to do and blessed you to do.”

Masvidal certainly expressed an interest to engage in a scrap with Burns and he’s keen to tango with Burns especially after that the Brazilian showcased in his last fight against Khamzat Chimaev. Before his interest for facing Conor McGregor turned up, Masvidal had only one name on his mind- Gilbert Burns.

“Definitely a fight that interests me,” Masvidal said about Burns. “Before the Conor fight came up, that’s the one that called me out and I was like, this is a guy that comes to fight.

“The whole world doesn’t know him but they will, because he comes to fight. He’s going to try and choke you out, knock you out, and just has a good style. I like the fight.” [h/t mmafighting.com]

Jorge Masvidal also provided some clarity about a possible return date as he’s still engaged in a legal battle over his fall-out with Colby Covington.

“Once some of these legal issues I’ve got going on [are settled], I’m setting a date,” Masvidal said. “That’s another reason why we’re not setting dates right now, because I’ve just got to figure out some things and then we’ll lock it in.”
