Deshaun Watson wants to ‘focus on football’ amid return for Cleveland Browns after two-year layoff

The Cleveland Browns have a lot to look forward to in Week 13 as Deshaun Watson will be eligible to play for the team for the first time this season. The quarterback was suspended by the NFL for 11 games after violating the league’s personal conduct policy after being accused of sexual assault by more than 25 women.

However, the 27-year-old only wants to focus on his football after more than 700 days away from the sport. Watson’s last NFL game was back in January 2020 for the Houston Texans. However, he didn’t play a single game for Houston in the 2021 season after requesting a trade from the team. The Texans refused to comply with Watson’s requests leading to a standoff between the two parties.

However, the Texans eventually let Watson loose last offseason, and the quarterback signed for the Cleveland Browns. But Watson is now prepared to make his return after nearly two years away from football.

Deshaun Watson speaks to media ahead of debut for Cleveland Browns

While speaking to reporters earlier on Thursday, Watson highlighted that his focus remains on doing well with the Browns this season. He said, “I understand that you guys have a lot of questions. But with my legal team and my clinical team, there are only football questions I can really address at this time.”

He added: “I was just trying whatever I could do to play football in 2022. Most of the settlement stuff with the NFL was mostly my agency and legal team. I had no control. My main focus was doing everything I needed to do to play this year.”

Watson’s return to action could come this weekend against his former team, the Houston Texans if he starts for Cleveland. The Browns are currently third in the AFC North with 4 wins and seven defeats this season and still have hopes of reaching the playoffs.
