Darryl Strawberry Is Doing Okay After The Heart Attack, Is In Recovery Now

After suffering a heart attack, former New York Mets player Darryl Strawberry is recuperating in a Missouri hospital. Strawberry said on Instagram that he’s “happy” and “honored to report that all is well” despite the health crisis.

The Mets report that Strawberry, who presently resides in O’Fallon, Missouri, is soundly asleep.

“On behalf of the entire organization, we are sending positive thoughts to Darry Strawberry, his wife Tracy, and his entire family after last night’s heart attack,” the Mets said in a statement. “Darryl was in Port St. Lucie working with the team as a guest instructor just a few weeks ago. We are looking forward to Straw’s speedy recovery and welcoming him for his number retirement ceremony on June 1.”

Late on Monday night, Darryl Strawberry revealed via an Instagram post that he is recuperating after a heart attack.

“Praising God for His amazing grace and loving mercy in saving my life this evening from a heart attack. I am so happy and honored to report that all is well,” he wrote.

“So thankful for the medical team and staff at St. Joseph West in Lake St. Louis for responding so quickly and bringing me through a stent-procedure that has brought my heart to total restoration!!! Your prayers are so absolutely appreciated as I continue to recover, in Jesus Name!”

Strawberry attended Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles and was selected by the Mets in the first round of the 1980 MLB Amateur Draft. He played eight seasons in Queens, receiving All-Star consideration in each and winning Rookie of the Year in 1983.

He then returned home to play three seasons with the Dodgers and another with the Giants before returning to the East to play five seasons with the Yankees before retiring.

In his 17-year career, Strawberry played for the Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers (1991–1993), San Francisco Giants (1994), and Yankees (1995–99). He also recorded a.259 batting average, 335 home runs, 1,000 RBI, and 221 stolen bases.
