Dana White Responds After Sean Strickland’s Comment Against LGBT Community

President of the UFC Dana White defended competitors’ freedom to say “whatever they want” following middleweight fighter Sean Strickland’s outburst in response to questions about the comments he had made regarding the LGBT community in the days leading up to his fight.

The reporter began questioning White about Strickland by noting that the CEO gave his combatants a “long leash.” That’s when White interrupted him.

“First of all, I don’t give anybody a leash. A leash? Free speech,” White said. “To control what people say and to tell people what to believe – I don’t tell any other f—ing human being what to say, what to think and there’s no leashes on any of them.

It’s absurd that this even needs to be mentioned, but Dana White is unquestionably right when it comes to the right to free expression.

It should be completely legal for anyone to express their beliefs, no matter how incorrect. That is America’s beauty. Since Canada doesn’t have the same liberties as the United States, UFC 297 was held in Toronto.

Reaction to Strickland’s words from Wednesday was negative. The reporter drew attention to Strickland’s remarks on his homosexual son. The reporter said that Toronto had a sizable gay and lesbian community and that he was an ally of the LGBT community.

Strickland questioned the reporter about his sexual orientation, if he desired grandchildren, and whether he had a gay son. According to the reporter, he was straight and having a grandchild would not present any issues.

“Well then you’re a weak f—ing man,” Strickland said. “You’re part of the f—ing problem. You elected Justin Trudeau. When he seized the bank accounts, like you’re just f—ing pathetic. The fact that you have no f—ing backbone and  as he shut down your f—ing country and seized bank accounts, you ask me some stupid s— like that. Go f— yourself. Move the f— on man.”

What is Sean Strickland’s fighting style?

A full-contact combat sport centred on striking, grappling, and ground fighting, mixed martial arts incorporates tactics from many combat sports throughout the globe. The phrase “mixed martial arts” was originally used in writing in 1993 by television reviewer Howard Rosenberg in a review of UFC 1.

What rank is Strickland?

Prior to the fight, ESPN placed middleweight contenders Du Plessis as the No. 2 and Strickland as the No. 5 in the world. Du Plessis (21-2) is undefeated in the UFC and has won nine straight games. The native of Pretoria has defeated former champion Robert Whittaker by TKO at UFC 290 in July.
