Lima shouted and motioned for the referee to stop the fight during the second round of the battle between the two Brazilians. Officials watched the video after the 25-year-old held out his left arm to reveal the bite mark, and they decided to disqualify Severino.

Severino would be dropped from the UFC, UFC president Dana White subsequently said to the combat sports website keviniole.com.

Severino made a shocking move considering that, after the fight round, he seemed to be in control of the bout and had more strikes (36–30) than Lima.

President Dana White demanded that Severino be immediately removed from the UFC, citing the golden rule of fighting. As a result, Severino will not be permitted to compete in the UFC. He fell to 9-1 after being disqualified from the game, while Lima increased to 8-0.

“Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters,” White reacted. “If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing u can do is bite your opponent. Now, you get cut and lose the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention, he’s going to have real problems with the NSAC [Nevada State Athletic Commission].”

After the game, however, Lima was beaming and proudly displayed her $50,000 victory bonus. In order to commemorate the unique victory, he also got the bite mark permanently inked.

At first, everyone was perplexed as to why Severino did not receive a warning instead of being disqualified right away and wondered how Tognoni could be so certain that the 20-year-old had deliberately bit down. That uncertainty was dispelled by a picture of Lima’s elbow, which showed one of the clearest bite wounds you would ever see.
