Dallas Linebacker Micah Parsons Talks About “Frustrating” Night Against Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles were declared the game’s winners on the scoreboard at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday night. However, the Cowboys blamed the silver and blue team after their 27-16 defeat. Micah Parsons seemed highly frustrated with his performance. He admitted so in a post-game interview.

Micah Parsons’ expression of disappointment during the Sunday postgame interview revealed much more than just displeasure with the Cowboys’ 26-17 loss to the Eagles. It is evident that he was mentally going over particular plays and every memorable error even before he spoke it aloud.

Micah Parsons Displeased With His Performance Against Eagles, Takes Accountability

“I just really feel like we beat ourselves,” a visibly subdued Micah Parsons told reporters after the game. “You play it back on the mistakes that I made and other guys might have made; we could have played much cleaner football. That’s the frustrating part.”

“It’s just passion of the game. You play the game with passion, you play it with heart, and sometimes you might overdo it,” Parsons said. “Football’s a game of talking trash and hitting people. And I thought it (the flag) was a little bit late, but I’ve got to be accountable for that and not give up the first down for my team.”

The errors Parsons is referring to include both apparent and out-of-character slip-ups as well as subtle but costly mistakes that may have been caused by the Cowboy’s defence having to instantly adapt to the Eagles’ RPO system, which has been utterly confounding teams week after week.

For insulting Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, Micah received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty with 8:10 remaining in the third quarter and the Eagles facing a second-and-10 situation on their own 30. The Eagles gained 15 yards and a first down as a result of the penalty, but the drive ultimately ended in a punt. It may be because of this that Parsons’ penalty received less attention than Fowler’s, but Micah still acknowledged the need to refrain from acting in this way, stating, “I’ve got to be accountable for it and not give up the first down for my team.”

The main point of Micah’s postgame remarks was accountability. Despite the Cowboys making their fair share of errors on offence, most notably the three interceptions that quarterback Cooper Rush threw, Parsons spoke on what he believes the defence should be doing more to assist the offence.

“We have to do better for them. Today, I thought we had let them down. It hurts a lot to lose this kind of game because of the sort of pride I have in our defence and the type of standard I hold for us.”
