Cowboys Invite Elon QB Matthew McKay For Participating In Rookie Minicamp

The Dallas Cowboys are closely monitoring a potential young quarterback named Matthew McKay in a league where quarterback skill is eagerly sought after.

The NFC East side has asked the former Elon player to throw at their rookie minicamp because the Cowboys did not choose a quarterback in the just completed 2023 NFL Draft.

Dak Prescott’s starting position won’t be in jeopardy, but if McKay performs well at minicamp, the Cowboys could consider him as a capable backup.

McKay, who was passed over in the 2023 NFL Draft, has traveled a long way to the Cowboys’ audition this week.

Prior to moving on to Montana State in 2021, where he passed for 2,201 yards with 17 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, he started his career at North Carolina State and played there for three seasons.

At Elon, where he spent the year 2022, he completed 61% of his throws for 2,690 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. In addition, he ran for 458 yards and three touchdowns.

He completed 5,708 passes for 41 touchdowns and 8 interceptions throughout his collegiate career. His 873 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

The Cowboys appear to have taken note of the QB’s success with Elon. McKay has similar abilities to Prescott, showing off a powerful arm, agility, and the capacity to make plays both in and out of the pocket.

Even though the quarterback was not selected, he still has a chance to make an NFL team in 2023 if he can win over coaches and scouts in attendance at the Cowboys rookie minicamp.
