Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams Points Out a Major Flaw With the $5 Billion Sofi Stadium
The past weekend, the Los Angeles Chargers took on the Seattle Seahawks in what was a closely contested game. However, the spotlight on the day was stolen by something that has been a source of debate between all parties involved in the NFL for a long time now. Cooper Kupp was one of the few athletes to raise his concerns after a game that saw two players suffer serious injuries.
Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf appears to have avoided a severe injury, Chargers cornerback J.C. Jackson is out for the year with a ruptured patellar tendon. After the game, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that the NFL and the NFLPA should assess the difference in safety for athletes playing on artificial turf as opposed to playing on grass.
Cooper Kupp, who plays his home games at the SoFi stadium shared his thoughts on artificial turfs. He said, “It’s not even close. I know there’s stuff going around the league right now, there’s some issues. Hands down, we should be playing on grass. Hands down, we should be on grass. And that’s all I’m going to say.”

Kupp resonates with the same sentiments as NFLPA president JC Tretter, who also believes that games should be played on grass. However, fourteen of the currently used stadiums in the NFL are artificial turf and there seems to be no push from the NFL to make changes otherwise.
A closer look at Cooper Kupp and the Chargers in 2022
Both the Los Angeles Teams, the Chargers and the Rams share the SoFi stadium. The rams were successful in winning the Super Bowl last year. This year, things have not been that good for the defending champions.

After six games, the Chargers find themselves with three wins and three losses a piece. Kupp is 56 receptions to his name (2nd in the league), 607 yards (5th in the league), 4 touchdowns (tied 6th in the league). Kupp was one of the best wide receivers in the league last year and his performances so far this season have shown that he has not lost touch.
