Commanders Owner Daniel Snyder Hits Back at Jim Irsay After Multiple Calls to Remove Him From NFL Ownership

Being an NFL team owner is an extremely exclusive club that only the extremely wealthy can enter. There is a long-standing joke that being an NFL team owner in the United States is equivalent to being knighted in the United Kingdom. Being a team owner also places a lot of responsibility not only towards the league and the sport, but also the city or state the team is representing. Recently, Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder has been under fire for not doing his responsibilities well.

Daniel Snyder purchased the Washington Commanders in 1999 for a record-breaking $800 million at the time, it was the most money anyone had ever paid for purchasing a sports team in history. Fast forward 23 years and the Washington Commanders are now worth a whopping $5.6 billion.

For a new owner to come in and take over a team in the NFL, they have to be voted in unanimously by all other team owners in the league. At the time of buying the Commanders, Snyder was seen as a good candidate and won all the votes in order to become a team owner. Over time, Snyder has lost the confidence of his fellow team owners and many are now calling for him to be removed as a team owner in the NFL and for the Commanders to be sold to new ownership.

Daniel Snyder of the Washington Commanders hits back at Jim Irsay

While there have been many who have criticized Snyder, no one has been more vocal than Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts. Irsay has repeatedly raised publicly the question of whether the owners should consider removing Snyder, and Irsay has repeatedly complained publicly about the toxic workplace that was maintained under Snyder’s management of the team.

Snyder’s team has hit back at Irsay with their latest statement on the issue. The statement said, “It’s unfortunate that Mr. Irsay continues to behave in a way that clearly is in violation of the Constitution of the NFL. We look forward to playing his team on Sunday.”

The violation here being talked about is that no team owner can publicly criticize any member club or its management, personnel, employees, or coaches and/or any football official employed by the League. All complaints must go to the commissioner, Roger Goodell.
