Christine Brennan The Hypocrite: Shades LIV Golfers For Taking Saudi Money While She Continues To Do The Same

Christine Brennan- For Spain’s Jon Rahm, here is a message from the top players in men’s golf, notably Augusta National Golf Club:

“Thank you.

Thank you for winning the Masters so LIV Golf didn’t.

Thank you, they all must be saying, for saving us from ourselves.”

Christine Brennan The Hypocrite: Shades LIV Golfers For Taking Saudi Money While She Does The Same

This is how Christine Brennan started her column on USA Today. The column is shading LIV Golf players in many ways. But how is it fair if the person criticising herself is doing the same? It’s simply the peak level of hypocrisy!

She started by praising Rahm and then highlighted how Saudi Arabia is sportwashing their blood money!

Rahm saved Augusta National from having to award a green jacket to LIV Golf escapee Brooks Koepka, who is presently on the PGA Tour’s suspension. Koepka had a four-stroke lead at the start of the day but lost by four strokes in the end, a huge eight-shot swing in Rahm’s favour.

Rahm also prevented Augusta National from suffering the utmost embarrassment of having to award another green jacket to the late-surging Phil Mickelson, who is often viewed as the pinnacle of the greedy, ridiculous world of LIV Golf, the league backed by Saudi Arabia that is employing players like Koepka and Mickelson to “sportswash” a long list of the kingdom’s atrocities.

Let’s be clear about what Koepka, Mickelson, Reed, and the other 15 LIV players came here and accomplished. They quit their regular tour jobs to work in the “sportswashing” industry with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his golfing buddies in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which was behind the murder and mutilation of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018 as well as horrendous human rights abuses against women and the LGBTQ community.

Rahm, the player who fended off the LIV attack on Sunday, was one golfer who was emphatic that he would never quit the PGA Tour in exchange for LIV’s large payments.

“Shotgun (start), three days to me is not a golf tournament. No cut. It’s that simple,” Rahm said. “I want to play against the best in the world in a format that’s been going on for hundreds of years.

“I’ve never really played the game of golf for monetary reasons,” he added. “I play for the love of the game, and I want to play against the best in the world. I’ve always been interested in history and legacy, and right now, the PGA Tour has that.”

All of these critiques would’ve been alright only if Brennan herself wasn’t part of the same money she is calling “Blood Money”

The University of Toledo’s Board of Trustees is chaired by Christine Brennan. And speaking of Saudi Arabia, the University of Toledo has received close to $10 million from them.

Brennan if this isn’t hypocrisy then what is?
