Can Bryce Young win the Heisman Trophy this season?

In the football history of Alabama, there have been only three Heisman Trophy recipients. What’s more incredible is the fact that the college won three Heisman trophy titles in a span of 11 years, all under head coach Nick Saban, who began his term with the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2007.

Mark Ingram won it in 2009. In 2015, it was Derrick Henry, while Devonta Smith won the crown in 2020. Interestingly, none of them was quarterbacks. Mark and Derrick were running backs, while Devonta was a wide receiver.

Although quarterbacks are most preferred for being named as the winner of the Heisman trophy, Alabama Crimson Tide is yet to produce a QB who ends up on the victory podium. However, that streak might just come to an end.

Fans are optimistic about Bryce Young’s chance to become Alabama’s first Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, and he has a good chance of doing so. But how realistic it is?

“Barring injury, Bryce will be the best QB in the S.E.C.”

In a recent episode of the ESPN College Football’s “The Paul Finebaum Show”, a caller predicted Bryce’s winning probabilities.

“I’m going to make this prediction right now, barring injury, he’s (Bryce Young) gonna be in the Heisman Trophy race and he’s gonna be the best quarterback in the S.E.C.”

What’s buzzing around Alabama’s offense?

Alabama’s offense has created a slew of Heisman Trophy candidates in recent years. Hopefully, this year too, there won’t be an exception. But what distinguishes Bryce Young from other Alabama quarterbacks? For starters, he possesses a rare dual-threat potential.

This will provide him with options in 2021, as well as a chance to improve his numbers. Young can do plenty to create anticipation and buzz this season, with plenty of highlight plays to make. When you factor in Alabama’s timetable, Young’s Heisman aspirations are all but assured.

Early in the season, he’ll have a chance to show his worth against Miami. Alabama will face Auburn, LSU, Texas A&M, and Florida, among others. If Alabama needs to go unbeaten, Young will have to do well against these strong defences. Young and the Tide will have one more shot in the SEC Championship if Alabama wins their division.

What are Bryce Young’s chances?

Although there are other players on the roster who could compete for the Heisman, Young is the clear favourite. For such a large number of running backs on the roster, no one player can get enough touches to win the trophy. While John Metchie possesses excellent receiving skills, DeVonta Smith was the only receiver to earn the Heisman Trophy. That won’t happen again anytime in the near future.

Alabama’s last two starting quarterbacks were also Heisman candidates. Also, remember Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts? He also once used to play for the Tide. Alabama football has made it a tradition to send their quarterback to the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York, and Bryce Young will follow suit. We’ll see if he wins the Heisman Trophy, but he should be one of the contenders for the trophy by the end of the season. And fans will love to see him on the victory podium.
