Cam Newton Takes A Dig At QB Brock Purdy, Calls Him A ‘game manager’

In his heyday, Cam Newton was one of the NFL’s top players and even won an MVP award. The former quarterback for the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers currently broadcasts a podcast. Cam Newton Takes A Dig At QB Brock Purdy, Calls Him A ‘Game Manager’

The Heisman Trophy winner and former star of the Carolina Panthers was thought to be one of the most explosive quarterbacks of his time for a spell.

Following the signing of a $103.8 million, five-year contract agreement prior to the 2015 season, Newton won NFL MVP and guided the Panthers to the Super Bowl. In addition to adding another 132 carries for 636 yards and 10 touchdowns as well as 3,387 yards, 35 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions, he concluded the season.

This season, McCaffrey has run for about 1,200 yards, while Purdy has passed for over 3,500 yards to the 49ers. With the 49ers plodding through a difficult schedule that included a recent game in Philadelphia against the reigning NFC champs, Purdy has passed for 25 touchdowns against just 7 interceptions.

Right now, the front-runners for NFL Offensive MVP are quarterback Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys and Brock Purdy of the 49ers.

Prescott has only six interceptions, leads the NFL in touchdowns (28), is fourth in passing yards (3,505), and has the second-best QBR (74.6).

In a recent podcast, Newton discussed the top quarterbacks in the NFL right now, mentioning Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes.

“But Brock, they aren’t winning because of him,” Newton said. “He’s managing the game. And if we were to put that in it’s own right as game managers, Brock Purdy, Tua Tagovailoa and Jared Goff. And really, Dak Prescott, these are game managers, they’re not difference makers. Listen, I don’t give a damn what you do, you don’t have to score every time, you just don’t have to throw a pick every time either. If we are really going to call a spade a spade, a game manager is different than a game changer.”

Newton’s assessment is utterly ridiculous when considering the quarterbacks in question’s current stats in relation to the NFL as a whole.
