Bills’ Von Miller’s Next Career Step Is To Become NFL GM

Last year in Von Miller’s podcast, “The Voncast,” has given listeners a lot to ponder. Von Miller is a Buffalo Bills player. The defensive standout discussed a broad range of subjects, from Harry Potter to the top five wide receivers in the NFL.

Miller shared some crucial information with the NFL when having wide receiver Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a guest. The two-time Super Bowl winner had chats about football and many topics. This podcast episode’s key lesson may be Miller’s aspiration for a career outside of sports.

Most players stick to the rules of the sport they played when they retire. The amount of retired players who enter the broadcasting industry is something that fans can track. They occasionally feel the desire to pursue an unusual endeavour. The linebacker disclosed his post-football goals when discussing his alma university Texas A&M.

Miller said to Evans, “You might not know this about me but when I’m done playing football, like, one of my dreams is to be a GM [General Manager]. I’ve been around some great ones so I kinda look at football and college football from a different lens.” Miller and Evans proceeded to play a ‘Cheat Code’ game.

Miller gave Evans four offensive lineups and said that he wanted to improve his GM abilities. Based on the players they believed would set the most scoring records, students were meant to choose one of the four attacking lineups. Mike Evans was a member of all four starting lineups. The offensive lineups selected by the linebacker and receiver ultimately differed. Miller still has his sights set on capturing more championships, so he needn’t worry right now about his abilities as a general manager.

He acted on what he said!

Recently, Miller travelled to Indianapolis to have a better understanding of what it takes to run an NFL team. Miller spent two days meeting with several front-office staff members, including a previous general manager, taking notes on his phone, and probing their brains about what goes into their professions with the assistance of agent Joby Branion and Bills general manager Brandon Beane.

You gotta build relationships,” Miller said of being a GM. “How do I know this guy’s a great coach? How do I know he’s a bad coach? How will he fit into my culture? What is my culture?”

The Super Bowl 50 MVP has been considering becoming a general manager since since his time with the Denver Broncos, so it’s not a novel notion.

However, Beane took the initiative to “water my plant,” as Miller put it. Beane urged Miller to go to the combine and network with other people after learning about his desire to become a general manager. Miller and Beane also met there to discuss business and get clarification.

“To take the next step, I want the people around me to know, like, OK, nothing was given to me. I worked,” Miller said. “I evaluated these players, spent time with coaching, scouting department, spent time with the pro personnel guys … I want to be in that position where I know my s—.”

Miller, though, had direct experience with what it was like for a player to serve as general manager. The Hall of Fame quarterback-turned-executive John Elway, one of the most well-known former players who made the move to a top personnel decision-maker, selected him with the first choice in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Broncos.

Miller said, “This is what I want, despite the difficulties and despite it being a competitive market, despite the pressure, despite all the perceived drawbacks about the position. “I enjoy every aspect of it. I still want to be a team leader, get out with people, and train players.

“He had a list of inquiries, which Beane described as “well-crafted and just going beyond obvious surface-level GM questions.” “… I know if he’s gonna take the time to do that, and he’s taking notes while he is talking to me, that showed me … It’s simple to talk for five or ten minutes, but because it lasted for more than two hours on a Saturday, I realised he was really serious.”

We really hope Miller turns his dreams into reality!
