Ben Roethlisberger Pushed Back On Robert Griffin III About His Comments Regarding Lamar Jackson

Earlier this month, Ben Roethlisberger came under fire for alleged slights made towards Lamar Jackson, the quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens.

Ben Roethlisberger Pushed Back On Robert Griffin III About His Comments Regarding Lamar Jackson

Big Ben stated matter-of-factly that opposition defenders seem unconcerned with Lamar’s pocket presence. Jackson’s accuracy, according to Roethlisberger, was also poor.

Responses came in from all throughout the league. Robert Griffin III, a former quarterback himself, was one of Ben Roethlisberger’s fiercest detractors. “RG III” attacked Ben, claiming that he was undermining a rookie quarterback in Jackson.

Teams “don’t fear” Jackson tearing them apart in the pocket as much as they fear the star quarterback burning them as a runner, Roethlisberger claimed on his Footbahlin podcast earlier this month. Griffin criticized the former star of the Pittsburgh Steelers for undervaluing Jackson’s arm, pointing out that he had a higher career quarterback rating and pocket quarterback rating than Roethlisberger.

Before criticizing RGIII in his most recent podcast, Roethlisberger was talking about the running back prospect Bijan Robinson.

“Even if I compliment him, Bob Griffin will find a way to turn it around negatively,” Roethlisberger said. “So, I’m not going to compliment him.”

Ryan Shazier, a former teammate of Griffin’s, pointed out that the context of the little footage Griffin used in his post was lost. According to Roethlisberger, his former evaluation of Jackson was “nothing but a compliment.”

“I respect Lamar,” he said. “Lamar is an absolute freak, and he is a game-changer. All I said was, people are more scared of his legs than his arm. I have sat in meetings where we have had a game plan, and no one ever said, ‘Hey get him out of the pocket.'”

Jackson is “more dangerous” out of the pocket, he said, but it doesn’t diminish his passing skills. Shazier said that Patrick Mahomes becomes more “scarier” when he can improvise, which supported Roethlisberger’s argument.

Ben made his thoughts known: There’s no animosity between the two, whether or whether his remarks lead to a reconciliation with Jackson. And Roethlisberger regrets that Griffin fanned the fires of their argument.

Despite not intending it that way, many people took Roethlisberger’s assessment as a slight. RGIII was one among many who saw the remarks as a jab at Lamar Jackson.
