Austin Reaves Reveals The Duty He Has To Do For LeBron As A Rookie

Austin Reaves joined the Lakers two years ago, but unlike many rookies, he was not given crazy rookie responsibilities.

During the Point Forward podcast, the 24-year-old shooting guard admitted that Rajon Rondo was the one who asked him for tasks the most.

LeBron James assigned Reaves the task of procuring an Xbox controller.

“To be honest, I didn’t really get much (rookie duties),” Reaves said. “I will say Rondo looked out. He was the one mostly asking me to go get stuff. He would hand me a couple of dollars when I got back. But, other than that, Bron’s actually real low-maintenance. I think he asked me one time to go get a Xbox remote, so I obviously did that. He gave me a couple of dollars, but they let me escape pretty good.”

Reaves’ first season was last year when, as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Oklahoma, he made the squad. He first agreed to a two-way contract with the Lakers, but after a few months, the organisation offered him a conventional two-year contract.

Any sport’s handling of rookies has frequently been based on the idea that they must “pay their dues” before becoming pros. Reaves made it clear that he wasn’t concerned by the treatment, mentioning in particular how James didn’t try to take advantage of the situation.

In his second year with the Lakers, Reaves has seen his statistical numbers over 55 games that have included 13 starts increase. For the year, Reaves is averaging 12.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

His field-goal percentage has improved from 45.9 to 52.0 percent and his shooting from beyond the arc has been bettered from 31.7 to 38.3 percent.
