Arizona 1B Christian Walker leaves game with facial injury

Arizona first baseman Christian Walker left the Diamondbacks’ game in San Diego on Saturday in the fourth inning when he was struck below his left eye by an infield throw.

On a ground ball hit by the Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr., shortstop Josh Rojas made a throw to first that bounced up and struck Walker. He sustained a cut and swelling below the eye.

Tim Locastro came on to play first base. Walker was 0-for-2 Saturday and is 1-for-10 to start the season.

Walker is in his seventh season in the majors and fifth with the Diamondbacks. He hit a career-high 29 home runs in 2019, and has a career .251 batting average, .334 on-base percentage and .463 slugging percentage.
