Antonio Brown persists in provoking Caitlin Clark, undeterred by her blocking him

When it comes to Indiana Fever’s basketball sensation Caitlin Clark, former NFL player Antonio Brown has stirred up controversy on social media once more. Brown, who is well-known for his divisive posts, has caused a great deal of controversy lately and sparked a discussion about the limits of respect and humor in athletics.

With a disparaging remark about Clark, Brown recently shared a joke on X (previously Twitter) that said, “Caitlin Clark looks like she keeps it hairy.” Outrage among Clark’s fans erupted as soon as the tweet went public. Quickly following the joke’s release, a number of followers denounced its profanity, prompting Clark to ban Brown from the site. Nevertheless, Brown did not back down from the incident; rather, he used it to draw attention to what he saw as a double standard among sports fans’ responses.

Angel Reese, the recent Chicago Sky draft pick and former LSU star, was the subject of similar remarks made by Brown prior to this incident. Some, even supporters of Reese, laughed at his comments at that point, appearing to enjoy the joke. Brown’s criticism of supporters’ selective sensitivity—especially with regard to Clark—was further bolstered by this unequal response.

Using another meme that said, “‘Funny’ when I joke about Angel but when I bring up Caitlin…” Brown brought attention to the inconsistent responses in a series of follow-up tweets marked #CTESPN. With some criticizing Brown’s lack of tact, and others supporting his sense of humor, this just served to widen the gulf between sports fans.

Despite the criticism and Clark’s decision to block him, Brown didn’t back down. He took a screenshot of the block message and made it into a new meme called “Cracker of the Day #CTESPN Blocked by Cousin It.” He kept sharing Clark-related content, including creating a spoof ad for her future Nike partnership. The questionably named “Caitlin Clark’s Hair Force Ones” meme showcased black Nike sneakers embellished with artificial fur.

Brown continued his streak of contentious and eye-catching posts by likening Clark’s draft-day appearance to someone preparing to sign the “Declaration of Independence,” further inflaming the situation.
