Anthony Davis Presents His Case For the MVP Conversation as Favorite Luka Doncic’s Mavericks Struggle
On the strength of Anthony Davis’ 55 points on Sunday at Capital One Arena, the Los Angeles Lakers (10-12) upset the Washington Wizards (11-13). Davis is enjoying an NBA MVP-caliber season in 2022. LeBron James and Anthony Davis have been guiding the Lakers lately, and that was the case against the Wizards as they helped L.A. win 130-119 and go up to 10-12. With 24 points in the first half, Davis continued to dominate on the glass for the Lakers, who eventually took a 20-point lead and a 68-50 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Prior to the start of the season, ESPN had Davis, who is 29 years old, at No. 20. In fact, ESPN ranked players higher than AD, including Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert.

Anthony Davis for the NBA MVP?
The Lakers have won eight of their previous ten games and are currently on a three-game winning streak. When LeBron James wasn’t healthy, Davis was the engine that propelled the team’s offense and defense, but he has continued to excel even since the King’s comeback. He surely has improved massively and if he continues to do that, he could also win the MVP.

Every franchise in the Western Conference believes that making a big move will set it apart from the pack and establish it as a dominant force. The Dallas Mavericks of Luka Doncic appear to best represent that. They defeated the hot Phoenix Suns on Monday in a manner akin to Game 7, which appeared to vindicate their journey to the conference finals.
The only player to outperform Anthony Davis this season was Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, who scored 59 points against the Utah Jazz. His effort against Washington was the second-greatest by any player this season. It makes sense that Davis was ranked No. 20 by ESPN because he didn’t even make the top 50 in that metric last season.
