Angels’ Anthony Rendon Dislikes The Duration Of MLB Season, Suggests To Make It Shorter

During an interview on The Jack Vita Show, Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon expressed his dissatisfaction with the length of the Major League Baseball season. This comment caused a stir among baseball fans and sparked fresh inquiries over the commitment and work ethic of the former All-Star.

Angels’ Anthony Rendon Dislikes The Duration Of MLB Season, Suggests To Make It Shorter

After winning a World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019, Rendon signed a seven-year contract worth $245 million with the Angels. Since then, he hasn’t participated in more than 60 games in a season.

On The Jack Vita Show, the third baseman for the Los Angeles Angels was asked what improvements he would want to see in baseball. And he gave a ridiculous response.

Rendon remarked, “We got to shorten the season, man.” “There’s too many dang games — 162 games in 185 days or whatever  it is. Man. No. We gotta shorten this bad boy up. Let’s go.”

Although one may argue that the MLB season is too long, many thought Rendon’s criticism was overly harsh. The majority of Rendon’s time in Anaheim has been devoted to the IL; an August piece from The Athletic detailed his problems, including a deficiency in communication and availability.

Not only has Rendon’s demeanor alienated fans and onlookers, but it also seems to have alienated teammates, as former Nationals colleague Jonathan Papelbon publicly criticized his work ethic.

Upon agreeing to a $245 million, seven-year contract with the Angels in 2020, Rendon has failed to appear in 60 games during any season since. With Anaheim for four years, he has played in 200 games overall.

Jonathan Papelbon, his former colleague, was undoubtedly aware of the irony.

“Played with Rendon and literally hates baseball,” Papelbon posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Yeah it’s long isn’t that what you signed up for??? Just tell the team you want to play half the season and give back half your salary!!!!!”

Now, to be fair, Rendon hasn’t had all the blame for his absence.

Rendon’s absence from the starting lineup has been mostly caused by injuries, most recently a fractured left tibia. Aside from the knee, oblique, and hip injuries he had during his Angels career, he also had wrist and groin concerns last season.
