Alex Cora Speaks His Mind On Astros’ 2017 World Series Victory In A Upcoming Book “Winning Fixes Everything”

Alex Cora, the manager of the Boston Red Sox, reportedly has trouble keeping secrets.

Following his appointment as Red Sox manager in 2018, Cora is said to have boasted about the sign-stealing scandal that enabled the Houston Astros to win the 2017 World Series, according to an excerpt from Evan Drellich’s new book Winning Fixes Everything (c/o Jason Mastrodonato of The Boston Herald).

Cora was one of the primary players in the sign-stealing controversy and a bench coach for the Astros in 2017.

In order to learn more about signs being utilised by other teams, Cora called the Astros’ replay review room, according to the findings of MLB’s official investigation, which were made public in January 2020. Additionally, he asked a technician to set up a monitor outside Houston’s dugout showing the centre-field video feed.

A person might keep an eye on the live feed on the monitor, look for the signs being used, and rap on a garbage can to signal which pitch was being delivered to the batter.

For the 2020 season, MLB has suspended Astros manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow. The organisation subsequently fired both men. The Astros also lost their first- and second-round draught picks in the 2020 and 2021 draughts and paid a $5 million fine.

Although Alex Cora’s involvement in the incident led to an amicable parting of ways with the Red Sox, MLB did not penalise him at the time. Later, MLB declared that he had been suspended for the 2020 campaign.

“We stole that (expletive) World Series,” Cora is alleged to have said.

One member of the Red Sox coaching staff told Drellich they knew the Astros stole signs “because Alex Cora told us.”

“‘We already knew what everybody was throwing before we even got on base,'” the staffer said Cora would tell them. “‘We didn’t have to get on base.’ And everybody was like, ‘What the hell does that mean?'”

In November 2020, Alex Cora was reappointed as Red Sox manager after skipping the 2020 season. After leading the Red Sox to the ALCS in his first season back, his contract option for the 2024 season was picked up in November 2021.

With a 78-84 record, the Red Sox placed last in the AL East in 2022.
