After Slamming The HBO Content Dan Le Batard Is Now Joining Max

The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz has been added to Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max streaming service, which launched its Bleacher Report sports tier recently, according to John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal.

According to Ourand, Max will provide a one-hour version of the program every weekday. On Monday, Nov. 27, the program will have its platform premiere.

The sports layer from Max, which is branded with Bleacher Report, debuted in early October and is free for Max subscribers through February. Just in time for the NCAA Tournament, the add-on will be on sale in March 2024 for $9.99 a month.

Dan Le Batard expressed his displeasure with what HBO Max had become in September. He claimed that rather than “quality content,” a “bunch of crap” is uploaded to the streaming site.

Max is presently joined by his show.

John Skipper, Le Batard’s business partner, mediated the agreement. If the name Skipper seems familiar, it was the former president of ESPN who was dismissed for purchasing crack.

Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company, is hoping Le Batard may contribute to a rise in subscribers. We aren’t as sure he can, though.

Every day, Le Batard’s show is available for free on YouTube, but not many people actually watch it. Who will precisely pay to see it, then?

Simulcasts of live sporting events that are simultaneously shown on one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s linear channels make up the majority of content available on Max’s sports tier at the moment.

But The Dan Le Batard Show’s acquisition suggests the kind of material the firm could be considering adding as it moves from its current free phase to what is likely to be a more significant product launch in the spring.

Regarding Le Batard, his addition to Max enables the show to keep growing, and a large section of its audience will probably be happy to see an hour-long version of the show. The program may presently be found on podcast platforms and is broadcast live on the DraftKings Network on weekdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. ET.

Le Batard’s show could only be added if Max planned to use it as a stand-in until a more widely-viewed sport-talk show became available.

ESPN and McAfee have an extended agreement that spans many years. However, Max could be able to include The Herd or Dan Patrick Show in the future, as they have both demonstrated the potential to attract a visual audience.

These programs also cover subjects that appeal to a wider audience.

Le Batard has grown more prickly, resentful, and sanctimonious since leaving ESPN.
