Ryan’s opinion caused a rift on X (formerly Twitter), as some followers passionately agreed with his views and others called him an out-of-touch “old man” who stayed up well past his bedtime.

Ryan had had enough after seeing the East defeat the West 211-186 in a game in which there was no advantage over the opposition. This guy is well-versed in both the NBA and the All-Star Game. He wrote about the NBA for 44 years, mostly for the Boston Globe, and is regarded by some as the greatest basketball writer of all time.

He therefore had a few things to say about the current nature of the NBA’s mid-season event. And he did not hold back.

“Once again, these NBA stars are showing no respect for the game. It’s another Dunkarama and 3-point farce. Not a single hand in anyone’s face. I’ll see how TCM is doing. See you next year. What a waste of time. Adam, you must do something. It’s embarrassing for your sport,” he wrote.

“If you’re not personally offended but this disgraceful farce taking place right now in Indy, you don’t love or understand basketball, These “All-Stars” should be censured. And where are the coaches? Have any of them have any pride? They’re all acting like athletic court jesters.”

In modern times, the most we can expect for from the NBA All-Star Game is a contested fourth quarter following three quarters of pointless play. In previous seasons, we haven’t received that every year, but perhaps tonight.

Ryan has a lot of insight, so when he provides his opinion on anything NBA-related, people should listen. And yes, others did listen, but they merely called his point of view foolish.

Ryan made a statement on the All-Star Game that most NBA fans would totally agree with. But some fiercely countered that Ryan was inexperienced in light of his critical assessment of the occasion.

Take note of how these people mocked him rather than stating that his viewpoint was incorrect. They just declared Ryan to be incorrect without offering any reasoning to refute his position.

These NBA fans are still free to hold their own opinions, though. However, there’s no reason to disparage an expert’s intelligence just because they possess it.
