Steve Kerr Is Outraged By The League: ‘Disgusting To Watch’ Post Loss To Nuggets

Steve Kerr, the coach of the Golden State Warriors, said he had no problems with NBA officiating after his team lost to the Denver Nuggets 120–114 on Christmas Day. He did, however, voice his opinions loudly over the guidelines established for the authorities to follow.

Steve Kerr Is Outraged By The League: ‘Disgusting To Watch’ Post Loss To Nuggets

In Monday’s game, the Nuggets made 32 free throws, with Nikola Jokić recording a career-high 18 of 18 shots. Due to his foul shooting, the two-time NBA MVP ended with 26 points despite being limited to 4 for 12 from the floor. And Kerr had strong thoughts on the matter during his postgame press conference.

And during his post-game press conference, Kerr had strong opinions on the subject.

“We’re just enabling players to BS their way to the foul line. If I were a fan, I wouldn’t have wanted to watch the second half. It was disgusting,” Kerr said after conveniently making sure not to rip the referees too hard that would result in a fine.

“I have a problem with the way we are legislating defense out of the game,” Kerr said. “It’s what we’re doing in the NBA. The way we’re teaching the officials, we’re just enabling players to b.s. their way to the foul line.

“If I were a fan, I wouldn’t have wanted to watch the second half of that game,” he added. “It was disgusting. It was just baiting refs into calls.”

At one point, Kerr even admitted what many of us have been saying for years: that the leagues are to blame for the overall poor quality of the game and that it is the responsibility of the players themselves.

“Players are just baiting refs into [foul] calls but the refs have to make those calls because that’s how they’re taught… I have a real problem with how we’ve legislated defense out of the game in this league and the players are really smart and for over the last decade or so they’ve gotten smarter and smarter,” the 9x NBA Champion as a player or coach continued.

Warriors guard Stephen Curry, however, asserted that the whistle would always help the player who can ensure that the official notices contact—often by inflating the situation.

“It does cater to the guys who can sell calls. There is physicality. But it’s tough because it is inconsistent, at times, on either side,” Curry said. “On a night like tonight, when you feel there is physicality on one side and then ticky-tack on the other, it changes the complexity of the game. I’m not saying we don’t foul, but consistency is key when understanding how you can defend.”

Jokic’s whole game on Monday was fueled by his presence at the foul line, which helped him score 26 points on 4-of-12 shooting from the field.

Jokic had only six points and four attempted free throws in the first half. He really got going in the third quarter, drawing and making ten more foul throws.
