Taking A Look At Anthony Richardson’s Fantasy Value
Anthony Richardson was one of the most intriguing prospects we have seen come out of college in most recent years. Richardson had an insane deep ball in college as well as being a prolific deep ball passer. However, despite all of his elite traits, he did have a bit of an accuracy problem in college, so how well will his skill set translate into the NFL? And What does this mean for his fantasy value with the Colts in 2023? Should you draft him?
Colts Fans were very excited when Richardson was drafted with the 4th overall pick, the franchise has been very hesitant about drafting a QB for years, going from veteran to veteran since Andrew Lucks Retirement in 2018. And for the right reasons, Richardson was the most dynamic player in the nation last year, with his talented rushing abilities as well as his arm strength. Its hard to tell how Richardson will project in year 1 until we get to see him in action, at least in the pre-season.
However, Richardson does have support behind him. Jim Cooter, who is the offensive coordinator for the Colts worked with Matt Stafford and Peyton Manning. Quaterbacks coach Cam Turner has a lot of experience with rushing QBs like Richardson, for example, he worked with Cam Newton when he won MVP, as well as working with Kyler Murray when he won offensive rookie of the year. He also has a decent supporting cast in terms of Wide receivers, rookie Josh Downs out of UNC, and former USC wide out Michael Pittman. We know Richardson loves to unleash his deep ball and Pittman is a big body WR who can come down with a lot of those contested catches, it will be interesting to see how well that connection between
Pittman and Richardson is.

So is Richardson worth the pick in fantasy?
Personally, I don’t know yet. In the pre-season we will get a better idea of how his game translate to the NFL, but right now we really can’t make an accurate judgement. He has a raw skillset and for sure has a lot of aspects to his game where he can get better. If I had to make a guess I would say he isn’t worth the pick not because of his game tape but because of his ADP. He is currently going as the QB16 ahead of Jared Goff who finished as the QB10 last year. If you can get Richardson at the right value, take him, because he has the upside to win rookie of the year and dig the Colts out of a really deep hole. But, for me QB16 is too early given his raw talent, and that is why I will be looking in different directions in terms of late-round QBs such as Geno Smith or Jared Goff

Richardson reportedly took “all” of the first team reps again today at Colts camp.
Kwity Paye (Colts DE) said that it’s honestly “demoralizing” to practice against Richardson.
