Broncos’ Aaron Patrick Sues NFL, Rams, Chargers & ESPN After Suffering Knee Injury On Sideline

This season, the Denver Broncos have experienced an alarming number of injuries, and one player has filed a lawsuit against the league as a result. Linebacker Aaron Patrick, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the Broncos’ Week 6 game against the Chargers, has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the NFL, the Los Angeles Rams, the Los Angeles Chargers, SoFi Stadium, ESPN, and other parties.

When Patrick left the field in an attempt to tackle punt returner DeAndre Carter and stepped on a carpet covering wires connected to devices necessary for the broadcast of the game, he tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during Monday Night Football Week 6 at Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, California. His team lost to the Chargers in overtime.

Patrick claims that a “hazardous” sideline condition was caused by negligence and contributed to his injury. The lawsuit requests unspecified damages, lost pay, and relief from “pain and suffering and emotional distress,” according to The Athletic. The NFL, ESPN, Chargers, and Rams all declined to comment on the complaint, according to Pro Football Talk. The Chargers were the home team the night of the incident, the Rams are the owners of SoFi Stadium, and ESPN was broadcasting the event.

Claims By Aaron Patrick’s Lawyers

The NFL and its owners should put player safety first, according to a statement from William M. Berman, Patrick’s lawyer. “The NFL must take all necessary precautions to safeguard its players from non-contact game injuries because it is a multibillion-dollar sports company and business.

In regards to Patrick’s injuries, Sofi Stadium was built at a $5,000,000,000 cost; the stadium ought to feature cutting-edge protection for player safety, not the kind of $100 mats you’d find in a restaurant kitchen.”

Patrick was in his second season with the Broncos. In 17 total games played for the franchise, he has recorded 11 combined tackles and one start.
