“He’s Not Gonna Be Able to Survive That”- Khabib’s Coach Reveals Jake Paul’s MMA Dreams Still Need Time
Ever since he turned professional as a boxer, Jake Paul has made a name for himself in no time. The YouTuber who has over 10 million subscribers was able to draw a lot of attention to his fights. At first, his fights were streamed on smaller platforms, but as time went by the bigger platforms started to take notice and now Paul is exclusively signed to Showtime.
Since day one, Paul has been an extremely polarizing figure. He has made a lot of enemies in the sport, including Dana White, the president of the UFC. White is one of the major targets on Paul’s hit list and the 25-year-old does not miss a single opportunity to belittle Dana White and the UFC for matters such as fighter pay and the way the UFC treats its fighters.
For a long time now, Paul has stated that he will be getting into MMA once he is done with boxing. This is not a preposterous idea given Paul has prior experience as a wrestler. It was recently revealed that Paul got in touch with Javier Mendez at the American Kickboxing Academy and wanted to work with the man behind fighters such as Daniel Cormier, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Luke Rockhold among others.
Javier Mendez sends Jake Paul a strong warning about MMA
In a recent interview, Mendez was asked if Paul was working with him and what his chances of doing well inside an octagon were. He said, “Jacob Chavez is a very close friend of mine and he’s an AKA coach… Jacob is with Jake Paul so I don’t really know anything else other than you know, he’s trained with an AKA coach. Which is Jacob Chavez.”
Javier Mendez continued, “If Jake Paul wanted to do MMA, I’m sure he can you know, he’s a wrestler and now he’s got boxing and he’s a great athlete. So I think getting him ready wouldn’t take too long. But at the same time, it depends a lot on the level you know. Where are you gonna put him? You can’t put him with someone that’s got great jiu-jitsu or great wrestling. They can take him down because he’s not going to be able to survive that. He’s gonna need time.”
