‘Am I Going to Gain 50,000 Instagram Followers?’- ‘Frustrated’ Curtis Blaydes Expresses His Disappointment Over the Unfortunate Ending to UFC London Fight Against Tom Aspinall
UFC heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes spoke out after his TKO win against Tom Aspinall following UFC London. It’s safe to say ‘Razor’ Blaydes was extremely frustrated with the way the fight ended since Aspinall blew out his knee after throwing a kick.
The fans inside the 02 Arena couldn’t hide their disappointment about the way the fight ended as the result was anticlimactic, to say the least. Curtis Blaydes talked about how he would have understandably wanted to win cleanly and he was left concerned whether he would remain in the headlines after it was all said and done.

“I’m frustrated. No one wants to win like that. I got the win, I hold my ranking, I get the money. But without a highlight, did it even happen? Did the fight even happen? Is this going to be in the news next week? Am I going to get an interview with Ariel Helwani? Am I going to be on YouTube? Am I going to gain 50,000 Instagram followers? No. So I’m disappointed about all of that, but nothing we can do about it now.”
Additionally, Curtis Blaydes wasn’t impressed with Tom Aspinall’s often talked about skill set in the short time they spent inside the cage. According to him, Tom Aspinall’s previous wins came over competitors who were ‘stagnant’.

“Everyone was hyping up [Aspinall’s] speed. He’s not as fast as you guys make it seem to be,” Blaydes said. “I know it was only 15 seconds, but every exchange, he got touched. In a lot of his highlights, when he’s sparking these guys, it’s because they’re stagnant.” [h/t mmafighting.com]

“They don’t move their feet, which is what I do. So I just don’t believe the hype. I don’t think he’s as fast as everyone thought he was. Obviously he’s also not as big as everyone made him out to be.”
Tom Aspinall is surely letdown with the way things unfolded at UFC London and he’ll be fired up to see how things shake out once he’s recovered from the shock injury.
