‘Winning the Distance Game… ‘- Henry Cejudo Gives ‘Ronald Methdonald’ Sean O’Malley Advice Following His Fight Announcement Against Petr Yan

Former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo sounded off on the recent fight announcement that came in over the previous week. Sean O’Malley is set to face the toughest opponent of his UFC career in Petr Yan.

A win over Petr Yan would catapult Sean O’Malley into stardom and ‘Sugar’ believes he’ll certainly face the winner of Aljamain Sterling and T.J Dillashaw next. The major criticism he’s faced thus far in his run is that he’s handpicked his opponents in the UFC. However, Petr Yan is an established name in the division and his name carries cache like few others.

Sean O’Malley gave his ‘two cents’ on the fight booking and explained that O’Malley’s only path to victory is by reverting to grappling. O’Malley’s size for the bantamweight division has always been an impactful factor, and per Cejudo, Sean O’Malley’s distance management is bound to be a difference maker in the fight.

“If I was to give you two cents Sean O’Malley, A.K.A. Ronald Methdonald, the only way for you to win this fight, and you could win this fight, is going to be based on two things: you using your distance, front kicks, keep them at bay and doing what you do because they are first things that you do do right, and those are your fakes, your feints, you’re able to set your hips. This is why you’re able to catch your strikes or your hands.”

“You see, I think winning the distance game and I think the other thing to is, where people are going to be very surprised to see from you, is you using your grappling.” [h/t bjpenn.com]

Additionally, O’Malley’s training efforts with championship calibre grappler, Tanquinho has given Cejudo pause to believe that grappling is the way to go for Sean O’Malley.

“I know you’re training with ADCC world champ, multiple time world champ, Tanquinho, and I do believe that you’ve learned a few things because iron does sharpen iron and I believe he is a solid you have been able to watch him compete live and I know how good his is.”
