‘He’s Not Going Below Top-Five Ever’- Sean O’Malley Expects to Cross Paths with Petr Yan Several Times In Their UFC Tenures

Speaking to BT Sport, Sean O’Malley talked about his recently announced fight against former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan. This fight is one that both men have been calling out for ever since O’Malley racked up several finishes in a row. Moreover, both men aren’t overly fond of each other and this will likely lead to an explosive pre-fight build-up.

There’s certainly a competitive rivalry brewing between Sean O’Malley and Petr Yan, and ‘Suga’ Sean expects both men to cross paths several times in the future. Both men are under 30 years of age and it’s likely they will match up several times down the road if both men stay on top of their game.

“It is (a fun fight). I think we are going to fight multiple times. He’s what, 28, 29, (I’m) 27. The bantamweight division is the best division in the UFC, if I had to predict I think me and Petr will fight multiple times. He’s not going anywhere, he’s not going below top-five ever, once I’m up there I don’t believe I’ll drop down either.”

“I think we will fight multiple times. It’s crazy it’s happening because I’ve wanted this fight for a while, I’ve been talking s**t to Petr for a while, that little Russian. It’s finally here, it’s exciting.” [h/t bjpenn.com]

O’Malley vs Yan has been the talk of the town and the winner will likely push themselves right into the title picture. Moreover, there’s a lot of intrigue surrounding Sean O’Malley’s performance at the highest level since Petr Yan will be the most experienced fighter he has faced.

Yan has been the figurehead for excellence in the 135-pound division and if Sean O’Malley secures an impressive win, the MMA fanbase are bound to rally behind ‘Sugar’ as the next man in line to face.

Yan is coming off two straight losses to Aljamain Sterling in title fights and he’ll have to pick up a couple of solid wins to return to a place on contention. However, defeating Sean O’Malley in definitive fashion will be a step in the right direction.
