WATCH: The Most Impressive Thing of the Day is Chet Holmgren’s Post-Match Interview, Even Better than his Summer League Debut

Chet Holmgren, a rookie with the Oklahoma City Thunder, made his NBA Summer League debut on Tuesday and was impressed enough to affect the futures markets for the award. For the Thunder, Holmgren finished with 23 points, six-shot blocks, seven rebounds, four 3-pointers, and four assists.

The adaptable 7-footer from Gonzaga was chosen by Oklahoma City with the second overall choice in last month’s draught. The Orlando Magic selected Duke’s Paolo Banchero as their top draught pick. For Holmgren, seeing that statistic at the collegiate level is nothing new.

In his first season at Gonzaga, he had six blocks on five different occasions and twice had a single-game career-best of seven blocks. He averaged 3.7 blocks per game to conclude the season.

Chet Holmgren rocked the post-game interview

In his first game of the summer league, Holmgren also had four assists, went 7 of 9 from the field, and made four of his six three-point attempts. The 19-year-old was a force on both ends of the court, laying down huge dunks, frightening opponents, and making shots from beyond the arc, including pull-up jumpers.

“Shout out to my teammates for setting me up, talking to me, just putting me in position to be successful,” said Holmgren

“Shout out to this guy right here,” he said, pointing to Giddey. “Double-double with assists. Great night for him, and that helped me out a lot.”

Josh Giddey, a prospective franchise cornerstone, and Chet have already become close friends. Pulling him into your first-ever post-game NBA interview when you just won and could have claimed all the glory is altogether another. Your inner hardened cynic could be thinking that Chet is only trying to make a good first impression.

It might be argued that the gesture perfectly reflects how he performed on Tuesday. Even if Chet’s statistics were astounding, nothing he performed was compelled or the consequence of a prima donna great player ordering him to receive his priceless touches. Everything fit into the game’s natural flow.
