The Unstoppable Trio of James Harden, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey Could be the Way Forward for the Sixers

In Philadelphia, the era of James Harden and Joel Embiid is off to a promising start. The Philadelphia 76ers cruised to a 133-102 victory over the tenacious Timberwolves in their first game together as teammates. Harden flirted with a triple-double with 27 points, 12 assists, and eight rebounds, while Embiid led the way with 34 points and 10 rebounds.

One thing we all know is that at the end of the day, the side with the most points on the board wins the game. Which is bad news for anyone who has the Philadelphia 76ers on their schedule, since the trio of Joel Embiid, James Harden, and Tyrese Maxey is hard to stop.

James Harden

Harden has never had much experience with a center like Embiid. He’s spent most of his career playing with big men like Clint Capela, Serge Ibaka, and Nicolas Claxton, who earn their living setting screens, rolling hard to the basket and hanging out in the offensive dunker area. This season, few players have scored as much as Embiid as the roll man, but he picks and pops more than the rolls.

James Harden, Joel Embiid & Tyrese Maxey: Sixers trio to watch?

James Harden already had a triple-double in his first weekend as a Sixer. It makes no difference if the Sixers score half of their points on free throws. That just goes to prove that teams have no choice but to break the rules and be called for it if they want to stop them.

It’s hard to believe how much simpler Joel Embiid‘s life on offense has been in the two games he’s played alongside James Harden. Sixers GM Daryl Morey has taken advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reconnect with Harden. With the addition of Harden, Philadelphia is probably the Eastern Conference favorite.

Joel Embiid is playing at an MVP level. Simply said, the scoring potential of Harden and Embiid has historic implications. Tyrese Maxey, a guy the Sixers declined to include in the blockbuster deal, seems to be one of the greatest winners. In the two games since Harden joined Philadelphia, Maxey has averaged 24.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while shooting 76.1 percent true.

Maxey offers a level of excitement to the guard position that Sixers fans haven’t seen in a long time. The 21-year-old has averaged 17.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists since returning to the lineup on Jan. 12, while hitting 42.7 percent on three-pointers. The recent Sixers game demonstrates the potential that Embiid and Harden have as a team in order to continue to develop as a unit and push the team closer to the playoffs.

While it is early to presume that this trio can win the championship for the Sixers, but as of now, it looks set for the team.
