49ers Trey Lance Joins Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes For Throwing Sessions

The NFL offseason is already in full swing, meaning players are not permitted to work out together at team facilities. Yet we saw Trey Lance Joining Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes For Throwing Sessions!

Thus, quarterbacks scheduling off-site practises with their skill position players has become standard practise. This past week, Kansas City Chiefs pass-catchers threw with Patrick Mahomes, the defending NFL and Super Bowl MVP, on the TCU campus.

The group, which featured Chiefs wide receivers Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore, had a surprise guest: Trey Lance of the San Francisco 49ers.

49ers Trey Lance Joins Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes For Throwing Sessions

Trey Lance, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, was seen tossing a football for the first time in seven months.

After breaking his ankle in Week 2, the San Francisco quarterback missed 15 games the previous season. Lance experienced a setback in his healing process, necessitating a second ankle operation in late December.

Lance had missed about seven months of play as a result of those two operations, and throughout that period he was never seen in public tossing a football.

Lance made the decision to participate in Patrick Mahomes’ throwing session for his own receivers as the Chiefs quarterback had invited his group of receivers to Texas for a passing session on the campus of TCU.

According to information from Chiefs Wire, receivers Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, Justyn Ross, Jerrion Ealy, and Ihmir Smith-Marsette agreed to attend the throwing session because, when the reigning NFL MVP asks you, you don’t turn him down.

Given that the Chiefs and 49ers played each other in the Super Bowl in 2019 and almost again the season before, it is rare to have quarterbacks from two different NFL clubs participating in the same throwing session, but Lance should be excited to get some practise. The third-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft had his 2022 season cut short by a fractured ankle in Week Two. The moment he passed in the video was the first time he has publicly thrown since being hurt.

For the starting role behind centre for the 49ers, Lance will go off against Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold (once they have both recovered from recent surgery to repair the damaged UCL in their throwing elbows).
