2023 NBA Games On MLK Day : Schedule ,TV , Streaming Updates

About MLK Day

MLK Day is celebrated in honour of the great Martin Luther King Jr. as a federal holiday in the states. In the Civil Rights Movement, which opposed racial inequality in federal and state law, King served as the principal advocate for peaceful activism. Soon after King’s murder in 1968, a movement to establish a federal holiday in his memory was launched. The holiday was officially enacted in 1983 by President Ronald Reagan, and it was celebrated for the first time three years later. Initially, some states refused to observe the holiday as such, renaming it or merging it with other occasions. The first time it was formally celebrated in all 50 states was in 2000.

NBA Honours MLK

The NBA pays tribute to his life and legacy by organizing league-wide initiatives to unite people and make a difference in our local communities. The NBA continues to further King’s struggle for equality and justice through league activations and community involvement.

Specialized Nike Warm-Ups

NBA clubs will wear special Nike NBA MLK Day warm-up t-shirts created in conjunction with the NBPA, The King Center, and Martin Luther King III during games played from January 13 to January 17. “NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE JUSTICE A REALITY FOR ALL,” MLK said in his iconic “I Have a Dream” address at the March on Washington on August 28, 1963, are featured on the front of the t-shirt, while “HONOR KING” is written across the back with Dr. King Jr.’s signature. Both phrases are written in a font that was adapted from the banners carried by Dr. King Jr.’s supporters during his memorial march on April 8, 1968.
