Trey Lance Undergoes Second Surgery On Friday
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) underwent a second surgery on his right ankle, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. However, it was done to remove the "hardware" placed during his initial procedure and isn't expected to "affect his ability to prepare for the 2023 season." The 2021 No. 3 overall selection appeared in only two games in 2022-23, amassing 194 yards and an interception while completing a hideous 48.4% of his throws. He also totaled 67 yards off 16 carries. Unfortunately, his sophomore campaign ended abruptly after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in the Week 2 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. Nevertheless, Lance is anticipated to participate in OTAs. But there are too many unknowns between now and September to say for certain if he'll be ready for Week 1. The fate of Jimmy Garoppolo (foot), who is set for free agency, and the production of Brock Purdy, are all elements that could factor into Lance's future not only on the fantasy end but in the Bay Area as well.

Trey Lance On Schedule In His Recovery
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he thinks that quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) is "right on schedule with everything" in his recovery from a broken right ankle he suffered in Week 2. However, the Niners don't expect him back for the playoffs. San Francisco was expected to trade Jimmy Garoppolo this year after naming Lance the starter going into the 2022 campaign, but they ended up keeping Jimmy G, so the Niners could have a tough decision heading into next year with Garoppolo set for free agency and Lance going into his third year. Lance, a first-rounder in 2021, has ditched crutches and a walking boot and should be ready for the start of next season, but it remains to be seen if the 49ers are fully committed to him.

49ers Remain Committed To Trey Lance
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) has a timetable of four to six months after he broke his fibula and tore the deltoid and sesamoid ligaments in his ankle. The expectation is that Lance won't return this season. However, the 49ers remain committed to Lance as the future of the team under center. At the moment, Jimmy Garoppolo will start under center and is a capable option for this offense. The upside is certainly there with Lance. Dynasty fantasy managers should ride this out because it could pay off in the end. However, fantasy managers in re-draft leagues can probably safely drop Lance for an active quarterback.

Trey Lance Avoids Compound Fracture
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) had successful surgery on Monday morning for a fractured and dislocated ankle, according to a source. The good news is he avoided a compound fracture like Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott's a few years ago. Lance will still miss the rest of the 2022 season after getting injured early in the Week 2 win over the Seattle Seahawks. The 22-year-old officially suffered a fractured fibula and ligament disruption to his right ankle. The Niners are confident that he'll recover and be ready for the 2023 campaign. In the meantime, San Francisco is happy they ended up hanging onto Jimmy Garoppolo, as he'll return to starting duties the rest of the way. Fantasy managers in need of a QB upgrade in two-QB leagues should absolutely look at picking Jimmy G up off waivers this week.

Trey Lance Possibly Done For The Year
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) was carted off the field early during the Week 2 matchup against Seattle due to an ankle injury. Most were hoping for good news. However, the update isn't good, with NFL insider Adam Schefter reporting the team believes the signal-caller suffered a "significant ankle injury." As a result, Lance is expected to undergo surgery, likely ending his season. The 22-year-old was named the Niners' starter in the offseason and was projected to take a step forward in his progression. Yet, now that he's presumably done for the year, the team will likely turn to a familiar face in Jimmy Garoppolo, who may be under center for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.

Trey Lance Ruled Out For Rest Of Week 2
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) will not return to Sunday's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. The signal-caller suffered an ankle injury early in the contest, requiring his leg to be placed in an air cast before leaving the field on a cart. Although there could be a positive update regarding Lance's condition, things aren't looking good, so fantasy managers should prepare for the worst. With that said, Jimmy Garoppolo is in under center and will likely remain the team's starter while Lance is out.
