  Darnell Mooney Expected To Be Ready For Offseason Workouts

  Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said that wide receiver Darnell Mooney (ankle) will be back on the field in the spring based on how his rehab has gone so far. Mooney suffered a broken left ankle in Week 12 and was forced to undergo season-ending surgery. The 25-year-old was quarterback Justin Fields' No. 1 target in the passing game before he was hurt, and the third-year wideout finished with 40 receptions for 493 yards and two touchdowns on 61 targets in his 12 starts. Mooney is probably best suited to be a team's No. 2 pass-catcher, and the Bears will surely look to upgrade a receiving corps that also includes Chase Claypool after they acquired him at the trade deadline from the Pittsburgh Steelers. With an ascending and talented Fields under center, Mooney could easily bounce back with better health in 2023.

  Bears Place Darnell Mooney, Eddie Jackson On IR

  The Chicago Bears placed wide receiver Darnell Mooney (ankle) and safety Eddie Jackson (foot) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday, effectively ending their seasons. Mooney injured his ankle in the Week 12 loss to the New York Jets, and he'll need season-ending surgery. He was a disappointment for his fantasy managers in 2022 a year after going for 81 catches, 1,055 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games. He finishes this season with 40 receptions for 493 yards and two scores in 12 games. Chase Claypool, Equanimeous St. Brown, Dane Pettis and rookie Velus Jones Jr. will take on bigger roles in the passing attack with Mooney's season over. Jackson suffered a Lisfranc foot injury in Week 12 and will also miss the rest of the year. It's a serious blow to Chicago's secondary moving forward.

He was a bit of a disappointment for fantasy managers after finishing 2021 with career-highs in catches (81), targets (140) and receiving yards (1,055) while scoring four times in 17 games. With Mooney out the rest of the season, Chase Claypool, Equanimeous St. Brown, Dante Pettis and rookie Velus Jones Jr. will have more opportunities in the passing attack in Chicago.

  Darnell Mooney May Be Done For The Year

  Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (ankle) was injured during the Week 12 loss to the Jets. While the team was optimistic, there is fear that the 25-year-old could require season-ending surgery. After being unproductive for most of the entire 2022-23 campaign, he showed signs of life by accruing two touchdowns in the last three weeks heading into Sunday's matchup. However, even if Mooney can return, Justin Fields' (shoulder) current ailment may keep him off the field as well, which wouldn't do the wideout any favors. Nonetheless, he will undergo further testing on Monday, but it's not looking good. As a result, Chase Claypool, Byron Pringle, and Dante Pettis may battle for targets from whoever is under center for the rest of the year.

  Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (leg) is doubtful to return against the New York Jets on Sunday. He exited the contest in the third quarter after going untargeted. The Bears aren't throwing the ball a whole lot with Trevor Siemian at quarterback, but when they do, Chase Claypool and Cole Kmet will see additional opportunities with Mooney sidelined.
