Cam Akers NEWS
Cam Akers Still Not Practicing
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers (illness) did not practice Thursday. He has been out sick and has yet to practice this week. The 23-year-old is trending in the wrong direction toward suiting up for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Akers has rushed for 274 yards on 84 attempts and a touchdown over nine games in 2022. The former second-round pick would serve as Ram's backup RB behind Kyren Williams if active for Week 13. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the situation, but Akers is mainly a flex play at best in deep-league formats if he does play on Sunday.
Dec 2, 2022 • 3:01 AM | RotoBallerCam Akers Out Sick Wednesday
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers (illness) missed Wednesday's practice due to an illness. Akers has two more chances to get back on the practice field this week ahead of a Week 13 date versus the Seattle Seahawks. The Rams cut Darrell Henderson Jr. last week and gave the majority of the backfield work to rookie Kyren Williams in the Week 12 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Akers ended up played 30 percent of the offensive snaps and saw eight carries for 37 yards while not being targeted in the passing attack. Even if he plays this Sunday, it's likely the out-of-contention Rams will continue to lean more on Williams as they finish a lost season. Akers will be best left on fantasy benches, and it'll be really hard to trust any Rams offensive skill player against Seattle with either quarterback John Wolford or Bryce Perkins making the start with Matthew Stafford (concussion, neck) unlikely to play.
Dec 1, 2022 • 3:16 AM | RotoBallerCam Akers' Role Will Depend On Game Flow
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers (personal) will return in Week 9, but his role "will be predicated on the flow of the game," according to ESPN.com's Adam Schefter. Akers missed two games but could immediately operate as the Rams' lead back after Ronnie Rivers and Darrell Henderson Jr. have underwhelmed. He should be viewed as a risky low-end RB3 in fantasy football this week.
Nov 6, 2022 • 6:26 PM | RotoBallerCam Akers Expected To Be Active In Week 9
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers is expected to suit up for the Week 9 matchup versus the Buccaneers. It's unknown how much work the 23-year-old will get on Sunday. However, considering he hasn't played since Week 5, it's doubtful he'll be involved enough to jeopardize Darrell Henderson's fantasy potential. Still, the Rams' running game has been a mess this season, so nobody in the team's backfield should be considered a must-start in any format.
Nov 6, 2022 • 5:46 AM | RotoBallerCam Akers Could Play Against Buccaneers
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay won't say yet if running back Cam Akers will play in Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he did say "there is a possibility." Akers returned to practice this week and wasn't listed on the final injury report on Friday. The 23-year-old fell out of favor with the coaching staff and was put on the trade block, but the Rams were unable to move him and are now trying to reinsert him into their backfield. Akers hasn't played since Week 5, though, so even if he's active on Sunday, there's a good chance he'll be in some sort of timeshare with Darrell Henderson Jr. and Malcolm Brown. LA's backfield is currently one to avoid while in a state of uncertainty and disarray, but Akers is worth stashing after being dropped in most single-year leagues.
Nov 4, 2022 • 8:40 PM | RotoBallerCam Akers Could Return Against Tampa Bay
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers (personal) could return and play in Sunday's contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sean McVay said Wednesday "he had a good talk with Cam Akers," who has been inactive the past two games and wasn't traded by Tuesday's deadline. The 23-year-old will return to practice on Thursday. He had 51 carries for 151 yards and a touchdown while catching two passes for 18 yards across five games in 2022. If active, Akers is not a strong fantasy option against Tampa Bay, as his role remains unclear. The Rams will most likely utilize a committee with Akers, Darrell Henderson Jr., Malcolm Brown, and Kyren Williams rest of the season.
Nov 3, 2022 • 1:34 PM | RotoBallerCam Akers Will Return To Practice Thursday
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers (personal) will return to practice Thursday. He has been inactive the last two games for what the team called personal reasons. The Rams could not find a trade partner for Akers by the NFL trade deadline, and he will return to the team for Thursday's practice. The 23-year-old had 51 carries for 151 yards and a touchdown while catching two passes for 18 yards across five games in 2022. Akers is a roster stash for now, but expect the Rams to utilize a committee with running backs Darrell Henderson Jr., Malcolm Brown, and Kyren Williams rest of the season.
Nov 3, 2022 • 12:54 PM | RotoBallerCam Akers Likely Won't Be Released
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers (personal) is not expected to be released, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Therefore, if the team fails to trade him, they expect him to play later in the regular season. Akers was inactive in Week 6 and is not expected to play in Week 8, either. Through five games this season, he registered an uninspiring total of 151 rushing yards, 18 receiving yards, and one touchdown. Not only should he be benched in all leagues, but he's borderline droppable in some redraft formats.
Oct 30, 2022 • 12:19 PM | RotoBallerCam Akers To Be Held Out Again
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers (personal) will be inactive for Week 8 after the team has expressed interest in trading him. It was reported that Akers has likely taken his last snap for the defending Super Bowl champions, so this comes as no surprise. Darrell Henderson is expected to be the lead back for the Rams, while Malcolm Brown and rookie Kyren Williams, who is set to make his NFL debut soon, will also be factors in the backfield. Brown and Williams are solid deep league pickups as late-season flyers.
Oct 28, 2022 • 6:36 PM | RotoBallerCam Akers Likely Done With Rams
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers (personal) won't be available for the Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. The Rams have been actively trying to find a trade partner for the 23-year-old back. The belief is that Akers has played his final snap for the Rams organization. The potential is there with Akers, but he has struggled on the field even when healthy. It's unlikely any organization gives up more than a Day 3 draft pick for the young back. This news is good for the fantasy value of Darrell Henderson who appears to be the unquestioned lead back in Los Angeles.
Oct 16, 2022 • 4:24 PM | RotoBallerCam Akers Could Be Traded By Rams
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers, who will be inactive in Week 6 due to personal reasons, is expected to generate trade interest in the near future. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport notes that the Rams are "open to a deal for the right value." The entire situation has played out in a unique fashion, with head coach Sean McVay explaining that Akers' personal matter is related to internal issues. "I would say it's more like we're dealing with things internally," he explained. "This is kind of unchartered territory and I think the biggest thing is, out of respect for the situation, we want to keep it internally." Evidently, it looks like the two sides aren't seeing eye to eye, and it could lead to a divorce. For the time being, Darrell Henderson will operate as the lead back, ranking as a fringe top-24 option in fantasy football. The Rams have also been linked to trade candidate Christian McCaffrey, though this is pure rumor and a deal would be difficult to complete.
Oct 16, 2022 • 12:21 PM | RotoBallerCam Akers Out For Week 6
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers won't play against the Carolina Panthers in Week 6. Head coach Sean McVay said the team is "working through" some things with Akers, so his absence seems to be for personal reasons. It's too early to speculate on what's going on and what this means moving forward, but Darrell Henderson should move up running back rankings to a must-start option. He'll likely command a workhorse role like he did last year at times and be featured in the passing game and in short-yardage situations.
Oct 14, 2022 • 6:28 PM | RotoBallerBrighter Days Hopefully Ahead For Cam Akers
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers saw just three touches on 18% of snaps in Thursday's Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Head coach Sean McVay acknowledged that there were things Akers can improve on and said he hopes to see "an increased level of urgency and accountability snap in and snap out from him". He also provided some more encouraging words, though, expressing his confidence in Akers to "be that guy that we've all seen" as we get deeper into the season. In the meantime, it seems that Darrell Henderson Jr. will continue to lead the way in the Rams' backfield. Fantasy managers need to monitor Akers' workload going forward, but he should probably remain out of starting lineups until he proves to have a meaningful role in the offense.
Sep 10, 2022 • 1:14 AM | RotoBallerCam Akers Not On Injury Report
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers was not listed on the injury report for Thursday night's matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Akers missed some time in August with an undisclosed injury but he will be on the field for the Week 1 season opener. The veteran running back's absence on the injury report is a good sign that his undisclosed injury was never very severe. Akers is expected to split work with Darrell Henderson this season, which leaves him as an RB2 in fantasy.
Sep 6, 2022 • 1:47 AM | RotoBallerCam Akers Isn't Quite Ready Yet
Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers was unable to do any running during a workout on Sunday, according to head coach Sean McVay. He has been sidelined a few weeks due to an undisclosed soft-tissue injury. The organizations doesn't consider this a serious injury, so fantasy managers shouldn't be too concerned. Although, it's uncertain if Akers will be ready to suit up by Week 1. Darrell Henderson Jr. is expected to split up the carries with Akers this season. He could be asked to step up and be the lead back, assuming Akers isn't ready by Week 1. Although, it's worth noting Henderson is dealing with a similar issue, but is making better progress.
Aug 28, 2022 • 10:36 PM | RotoBallerCam Akers Not A Lock For RB1 Duties To Open The Season
ESPN's Sarah Barshop doesn't think it's a lock that Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers will start the regular season as the team's true RB1. Both head coach Sean McVay and offensive coordinator Liam Coen said the Rams plan to use both Akers and Darrell Henderson Jr. regularly. Akers could end the season as the team's No. 1 back, but even before both Akers and Henderson dealt with soft-tissue injuries in training camp, the team was rotating them during practices. Behind the two, LA has rookie Kyren Williams and Jake Funk. Akers and Henderson should be ready for Week 1, but this news makes Akers a little less attractive as an RB2 play out of the gates.
