Colts Sign Jake Funk, Cut Phillip Lindsay

The Indianapolis Colts signed running back Jake Funk to their practice squad on Thursday and released running back Phillip Lindsay from the practice squad in a corresponding move. In five games for the Los Angeles Rams this year, Funk saw one snap on offense. The former seventh-round pick in 2021 played in 10 games in LA in his rookie season and returned four kicks on special teams. The 24-year-old from Maryland will strictly serve as emergency RB depth for the Colts now. Lindsay saw action in three games for the Colts this year when Jonathan Taylor (ankle) was sidelined, carrying the ball 15 times for 49 yards while catching six of his eight targets for 19 additional yards. He'll look to latch on with a new team to provide RB depth.

Phillip Lindsay Elevated To Active Roster

The Indianapolis Colts elevated running backs Phillip Lindsay and D'Vonte Price to the active roster from the practice squad on Saturday and also signed wide receiver Keke Coutee to the active roster and waived offensive tackle Luke Tenuta. Running backs Jonathan Taylor (ankle) and Nyheim Hines (concussion) have been ruled out for Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, so the Colts will roll with Deon Jackson, Lindsay and Price in their backfield this Sunday. Jackson will be the preferred flex option in deeper leagues after he saw a team-high 13 carries for 62 yards and caught all four of his targets for 29 yards on 58 percent of the offensive snaps in the Week 5 overtime win over the Denver Broncos.

Colts Add Phillip Lindsay To Active Roster

The Indianapolis Colts elevated running back Phillip Lindsay from their practice squad to the active roster for Thursday night's game against his former team, the Denver Broncos, according to a source. With Jonathan Taylor (ankle) ruled out for Week 5, Lindsay will make his Colts debut and could have a role alongside pass-catching back Nyheim Hines and Deon Jackson. The former undrafted running back had 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons with Denver but then quickly fell out of favor and was released. He had 88 carries for 249 yards and a touchdown in 14 games with the Texans and Dolphins in 2021. Lindsay could factor in on early downs against Denver on Thursday, but he's not a recommended option in starting fantasy lineups in his first game with Indy.

Colts Add Phillip Lindsay To The Practice Squad

The Indianapolis Colts signed running back Phillip Lindsay to their practice squad on Tuesday. Lindsay was released by the team on roster cutdown day a week ago, but he'll return to the team as depth at the running back position. Jonathan Taylor will be the primary lead back yet again, with Nyheim Hines working in mostly a pass-catching role behind him. Deon Jackson is currently the team's No. 3 RB. Lindsay went undrafted in 2018 but then made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season with the Denver Broncos, when he rushed for 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns on 192 carries. He also had a 1,000-yard rushing season the following year, but since then he's quickly fallen off and spent the 2021 season with the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins.

    Colts Release Phillip Lindsay

The Indianapolis Colts released running back Phillip Lindsay on Tuesday, according to a source. Lindsay wasn't on the fantasy radar heading into the 2022 season behind both Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines, but he was battling for the No. 3 job in training camp and the preseason. With Lindsay now out of the picture, Deon Jackson should be the favorite for No. 3 duties, with Ty'Son Williams and rookie D'Vonte Price behind him. Lindsay played in 14 combined games (one start) for the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins last year, carrying the rock 88 times for 249 yards and a touchdown while adding four catches on five targets for 45 yards and an additional score. He should be able to latch on with another team as RB depth.
