Derwin James Won't Play Against Rams
Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Los Angeles Rams. James suffered a concussion in the Monday night win over the Indianapolis Colts on the same play in which he was ejected for a hit on receiver Ashton Dulin. The 26-year-old safety won't be suspended for the play, but he could miss the final two regular season games as the Bolts look to get their squad healthy for the postseason. It's a significant development for fantasy managers in IDP leagues that are playing for a championship this week, as James has been the No. 5 fantasy safety in 2022 based on overall points. The good news for the Chargers is they appear to be getting pass-rusher Joey Bosa (groin) back for the first time since Week 3. Alohi Gilman should start in James' play on Sunday.

Derwin James Won't Be Suspended
Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James (head) won't be suspended for the hit on Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Ashton Dulin that led to James being ejected in the victory on Monday night, according to a source. James could be fined for his actions. It's good news for James and his fantasy managers in IDP leagues, but the 26-year-old is also in the league's concussion protocol due to a head injury that he suffered on the same play that got him ejected from the game. Before leaving on Monday, the Pro Bowler had an interception. He was returning from a two-game absence due to a quadriceps injury, and now his availability for the Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Rams is in question. After clinching a postseason berth on Monday, the Bolts could play it safe and hold James out this week.

Derwin James Ejected On MNF
Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James was ejected from his team's Monday night game against the Indianapolis Colts. James was ejected for an illegal hit to the head/neck area of a defenseless Ashton Dulin in the second quarter on a tackle attempt in which he appeared to lead with the crown of his helmet. James also may have injured himself on the play as he was in the medical tent getting checked for a concussion when the ejection was announced. Following the tackle, Dulin immediately headed back into the locker room to get checked out. James had an interception and three total tackles before the ejection.

Derwin James Ready To Play In Week 16
Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James (quad) has been sidelined since Week 13 but says he will return to action against the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night. James, who was announced as a Pro Bowl selection earlier this week, was listed as limited in the Chargers' practice on Thursday and was upgraded to full participation on Friday. Of course, the team will make an official call on James' availability this weekend, but the 26-year-old appears on track to suit up and should make an immediate impact as a leader for Los Angeles' secondary.

Derwin James Officially Out Sunday
Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James (quadriceps) is officially inactive for Week 15 against the Tennessee Titans. This comes as no surprise considering he had been listed as doubtful. The 26-year-old has logged an impressive 106 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception through 10 games in 2022. The Chargers hope James' absence will last just two games and he can return for Monday Night Football in Week 16.

Derwin James Likely To Miss Another Game
Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James (quadriceps) was unable to practice all week and is listed as doubtful to suit up on Sunday to face the Tennessee Titans in Week 15 action. James is heading for his second straight missed game, and he'll hope to return in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts on the road on Monday Night Football. Despite missing last Sunday night's win over the Miami Dolphins, the 26-year-old safety is ranked No. 2 in total fantasy points among defensive backs in IDP formats. From a defense/special teams standpoint in fantasy, managers should be able to find better streaming options than the Chargers D this weekend. All-Pro running back Derrick Henry could have a field day against this LA run defense.

Derwin James Doubtful In Week 14
Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James (quadriceps) missed practice on Friday and is doubtful to play in Week 14 against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football. James was unable to get on the practice field at all this week and is highly unlikely to be active in Week 14. It's terrible timing for the 26-year-old and the Chargers defense with the high-flying offense of the Dolphins coming to town. It's good news for must-start wideouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. With James headed for an absence on Sunday, defensive backs JT Woods and Alohi Gilman will be asked to play more snaps in a big game for the Bolts in primetime. James is the top fantasy safety in IDP leagues, so managers will need to go in another direction at the position this weekend.

Derwin James Reaches Four-Year Extension With Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers are signing safety Derwin James to a four-year contract extension that averages $19.1 million per year on Wednesday, making him the highest-paid safety in NFL history, according to sources. The deal includes a record-breaking $42 million guaranteed. James will make $29 million in the first year of the deal. The 26-year-old former first-round pick had been holding out of training camp due to his contract situation, but the Bolts will be able to get the two-time Pro Bowler back on the field now. In his two full seasons in the NFL, James has 100-plus tackles. In 15 games in 2021, he had 118 tackles (75 solo), seven tackles for loss, seven QB hits, two sacks, two interceptions, five passes defensed and three forced fumbles to finish as the No. 4 fantasy defensive back in IDP leagues.
