Robert Tonyan Cleared For Week 1

Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan (knee) doesn't enter the weekend with an injury designation and is expected to play in the Week 1 regular season opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Tonyan is returning after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee in Week 8 of last year. He's become a forgotten man in fantasy, but the 28-year-old could be a valuable streaming tight end in Week 1 with the Packers lacking experienced pass-catchers. No. 1 wideout Allen Lazard (ankle) is already doubtful to play. In 2020, Tonyan set career-highs in catches (52), targets (59), receiving yards (586) and touchdowns (11) in 16 regular season games (eight starts). If he has a big performance to kick things off, he could be one of the more popular waiver-wire targets heading into Week 2.

    Robert Tonyan Limited Thursday

Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan (knee) was a limited participant in practice Thursday. He had been sidelined since Week 8 of last season with a torn ACL and is on track to suit up for the regular season opener against the Minnesota Vikings. The 28-year-old has been limited in back-to-back practices, but Friday's injury report will determine if Tonyan is active. He caught 18 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns in eight games before the injury. Tonyan is a mid-range TE2 against the Vikings but could see an uptick in targets if wide receiver Allen Lazard (ankle) is ruled out.

Robert Tonyan Ready For Team Drills

Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan (knee) is participating in Sunday's team drills, according to head coach Matt LaFleur. Tonyan tore his ACL during a meeting with the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8 of last season. He came off the PUP list a few weeks ago, so this current update certainly makes it possible he'll be on the field in some capacity for the season opener against the 49ers. While it may take the 28-year-old a game or two to see his usual workload, he could establish himself as an effective fantasy tight end, primarily since he already has an established rapport with Aaron Rodgers.
