    Blake Martinez Announces His Retirement

Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Blake Martinez announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday in a statement that he posted on his Instagram account. He signed with the Raiders in October and played in four games, recording 20 tackles (14 solo). The New York Giants released Martinez at final cuts in the summer. He was originally a fourth-round selection in 2016 by the Green Bay Packers out of Stanford. The 28-year-old spent the first four seasons of his career with the Packers before playing with the Giants for two years. Martinez will finish his seven-year NFL career with a total of 706 tackles (442 solo), 13 sacks, 39 tackles for loss, 18 QB hits, four interceptions, 22 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 84 regular season games (78 starts).

    Blake Martinez Signs With Raiders

Linebacker Blake Martinez is signing a deal to join the Las Vegas Raiders, according to The Score's Jordan Schultz. Martinez was released by the New York Giants right before the season started after a two-year tenure in the Big Apple. He will reunite with former Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, who is now with the Raiders. Martinez posted four straight seasons of at least 144 tackles from 2017 to 2020 and could have some value in deep IDP leagues if he garners a full-time role with the Raiders. The terms of the deal have yet to be posted.

Giants Part Ways With Blake Martinez

The Giants released linebacker Blake Martinez on Thursday night. The veteran joined the team in 2020 after agreeing to a three-year, $30 million contract. He finished his first season in New York by recording 151 tackles, five passes defensed, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and one pick. However, he tore his ACL in Week 3 of the 2021-22 campaign and missed the rest of the year. That said, assuming Martinez's health issues are behind him, he'll likely find work, and it could happen soon. While it's possible he may have lost a step since the injury, he should draw consideration from IDP managers based on his tackling prowess over the years.
