Zach Wilson to return as starting QB for New York Jets as Mike White deals with injury

Zach Wilson will be given a second chance at redeeming himself when he starts for the New York Jets in Week 15 of the NFL season against the Detroit Lions. The quarterback was dropped as a starter for poor performances earlier this season but will replace Mike White this weekend.

White is currently dealing with a rib injury. In the Jets’ 20-12 loss to Buffalo on Sunday, he was knocked out twice. Despite this, he was a true sportsman and still managed to finish the game against the Bills. After that, he was examined in a medical facility.

He underwent a CT scan at a nearby hospital, where he “checked out alright,” according to head coach Robert Saleh. This week’s further, more accurate testing revealed additional damage, preventing White from being cleared for contact.

The fact that White won the game and was initially given a positive diagnosis by the doctors, who said he was OK and ready for the upcoming games, this news was unexpected for the audience.

How has Zach Wilson fared this season?

Zach Wilson, a 5-2 starter, was benched in favor of White, who is popular among the team. Last month, the team made Wilson, the No. 2 overall choice from the previous season, benched to work on his mechanics and mental attitude. Ahead of White and Joe Flacco, the Jets moved him up to No. 2 earlier this week.

Wilson has managed only 1,298 yards and 4 touchdowns in his seven games this season.

The table has turned and Wilson will start in a pinch on Sunday due to Mike White not being cleared by doctors following his rib injury, just three days after Wilson’s promotion from third-stringer to backup. This was first reported by ESPN.

Similar to the previous year, White made a fantastic debut, but he struggled to remain healthy. In practice on Friday, he was advised to sit out.

White was given the go-ahead for practice but not contact by the team doctors, according to Saleh. “It’s important for the team to protect players too. It’s one of our duties towards our team,” he said.
